New Product Review: CustomAltima.com Exhaust Downpipe (3.5L V6 Motor)
Article by editorial staff

CustomAltima.com is continually developing new performance products for the Nissan Altima enthusiasts. Currently, Custom Enterprise has engineered a 2002+ V6 Nissan Altima downpipe that replaces the restrictive stock exhaust component; a significant boost in performance can be expected, even on a vehicle with no other upgrades. CustomAltima.com has dyno tested their new downpipe on a stock V6 Nissan Altima that showed gains of as much as 12.4 horsepower. Gains of as high as 14 additional horsepower can easily be achieved in combination with other exhaust and air intake upgrades. The downpipe works by drastically reducing exhaust backpressure, allowing your engine to “breathe easier”, in turn making it more responsive from start to redline. Indeed, the Custom Enterprise downpipe lives up to its promise - we observed a slight increase in power along with a faster throttle response after installing the downpipe on a 2003 V6 Nissan Altima test vehicle.

Custom Enterprise’s engineers spent numerous months getting the perfect fit and maximum horsepower gain for this Altima downpipe. The downpipe installation is greatly simplified since it uses factory bolt and mounting points. No welding, fabrication or other hassles are needed; this product replaces the OEM factory unit and is a direct bolt-on replacement.

We are yet to be disappointed with the quality of a Custom Enterprise’s product – and this new downpipe is no exception. The downpipe is constructed out of T304 stainless steel for long lasting durability and rust resistance, protecting it from harsh elements and damage. The downpipe features a double-lined flex section for maximum strength and a superior sealing of exhaust gases. Good fitment is ensured by the special clearance for the Nissan Altima chassis, similar to the OEM design, the downpipe does not come into contact with underbody components.

Each bend of the downpipe is mandrel bent for smooth curves and no flow restrictions. We observed no improper bends in our downpipe, no crumpling, scuffing or internal damage that would restrict the flow of exhaust gases. In our careful inspection of the connecting weld points we observed no significant pooling or incorrect welding, no cracks or seals are present. These downpipes are carefully welded to ensure a total seal and an even flow of exhaust gasses.

Although the downpipe is a direct bolt-on replacement, the installation requires clear access to the underbody of the vehicle. Access to the exhaust bolts can be tricky; we do not recommend this installation for amateur home garage mechanics. This downpipe replaces one of the factory catalytic converters. This improves the sound quality of the exhaust note and frees up the gas circulation. You can expect a slightly throatier, deeper exhaust note after the installation of the downpipe. The downpipe is shipped with an “off-road use only” disclaimer.
