Calling all 3.5SE owners (with and without vibration problem)
As most of you are aware, there are alot of members here (including myself) who are experiencing steering wheel/entire car vibration problems. Many of us attribute this to the Turanza EL42 tires, but I have read of several members here replacing these tires with different brands and STILL experiencing the vibration. And then there are others who have never experienced this problem. I wanted to take advantage of having access to this large community, and take a census of all Altima owners to see who is experiencing this problem and who is not. I want to know what mods you have that might be affecting this issue and what services you've had done. I have a relative that works at NNA and he knows some engineers there, so I can forward the information I gather here to him. The more information you include the better.
Some information to include when posting: year, model, mileage, mfg. date (if known), tires, mods, description of problem (if applicable), and service done to the car.
1) 2005 3.5SE
2) 2600mi
3) mfg. date 1/2005
4) Turanza EL42 Tires (2600mi)
5) NO mods. Just a factory spoiler and wind deflector
6) ENTIRE car vibrates at 83+mph. Speed in which it occurs varies slightly depending on type of road surface.
7) Had dealer balance tires and inspect tires for defects. No problems found. They refuse to do anything else since problem occurs above the legal speed limit
Your response is appreciated. Lets get to the bottom of this!

My production date is 6-04, no mods other than factory spoiler. 4500 miles on it, bought new 30 days ago. has had 6 pairs of front tires, two full set of rims (stock), rotors replaced and turned, vibration or woble depending on speed at or above 50 mph. Currently has Yokohoma H4S 225/55/17.

1) 2004 3.5SE
2) 27000mi
3) mfg. date 8/03
4) Kumho KH11 235/50/17 (12000mi)
5) Rear Sway Bar, Eibach ProKit Springs, etc.
6) Steering column vibrants in a up/down motion at any speed. I'll attribute this to locking up the wheels to avoid an accident and adding flat spots to the rubber. It goes away with new tires, my EL42's did the same thing after an autocross instructor had too much fun with it on a course and locked them up in every corner. Replaced the EL42's with the KH11's and the problem went away until the non-abs brakes locked up again just for a moment, now it's back if I don't keep on managing the pressure levels. If the PSI in the two front tires are very very similar, the problem isn't as bad.
7) Never have got the dealer involved.
I have an 03 3.5Se auto, made June 03, bought new Nov 03. Stock tires, no mods.
She is rock solid up to 130 MPH, no vibrations at all.
Couple things I suggest:
-Have your tires load balanced.
-Rotate your tires to see if that has any impact.
-Make sure that the surface of your rotors, where the rim and tire meet is clean. There is alot of surface contact between the stock rims and side of the rotor (where the lug studs are). I took my winters off last weekend and I notice that alot of crap can buildup in this area. I used a scraper and a brush to make sure that this area was spotless so the rim sits proper and flush on the rotor.
Make sure that the inside portion of your rim is clean and doesn't have mud stuck to it, It's fairly flat in there and sometime dirt and mud can accumulate, even a little can really throw things off.
1) 2005 3.5SE
2) 140000 mi
3) mfg date June 004
4) EL42
My vibration has gone much better after the dealer used a hunter machine (advanced balancing) but scartched my wheels, which I had them replace. After swapping my wheels, and rotating my tires, the vibration seems to now occur at speeds of 105mph only and up.
Year:2005
model:3.5se with every option but navigation
the factory tires/rims(turanza i guess)
I noticed an ugly up/down vibration in the whole car and steering wheel when i went up to 120 or so, it hasnt done it again, nor have i gone that fast again.
Year: 2005
Model: 3.5SE 5AT with Sport Package
Tires: Turanza 215/55/17
Milage: 7800
Mods: Added OEM side sills, Window Channel Window Visors, K&N Filter and HID
Vibration: No vibration from 0-125. I had to replace front passanger tire due to a blow out in snow. Up graded to VR grade of Turanza. Will report any problem next time I go above 85MPH. I feel like I'm writing a school report...
