I've been trying for over a year to get it as a "sticky". I guess nobody's listening. Either that or put it in DIY section.
Yes indeed mods...please sticky. I did this today and it fixed my issue in less than 1 hour. Thanks to froedrick for all his valuable info and persistence with this post.

that page was hiding! danm page there was still 6.5 pages and no pics LOL!
Unfortunately the moderation staff doesn't support this site very well, if it did the pics would have been copied into the first post and this thread would be stickied.
UNREAL!!! I cant believe this worked...Long story short I bought my 05 SL in June (4 months ago) I love the car and cant say enough good about it...had a wheel bearing replaced while it was still under warranty and not soon after I heard this noise...at first I thought strut but I had a few ppl listen to it and based on the randomness and selectiveness of the noise happening we ruled that out...I then thought maybe my hood bumpers (that level off the hood) might have been off making some bouncing noise on bumps (nope) I also put in a Stillen intake and found that a part of the stock airbox (near the left front wheel well) that I forgot to remove, figured that might be bouncing but wasnt that either....today I decided to search and found this fix..just finished and backed in and out of my driveway a few times (I could usually make the noise happen here) and it didnt happen! Granted I didnt take it for a ride yet but I think problem solved!

Glad it worked. One of the major problems with diagnosing this problem is that it's so random. It'll do it going forward or backward and during almost any braking or acceleration moves. Seems to be no way to predict when it'll make the noise.
^^ I took it for a ride and its riding tight like it did when I bought it - so definitely problem fixed. I cant believe that just tightening those 10ish bolts could do that...whats funny about it though its like...the noise doesn't seem to come from that area (the strut bar area), yet tightening those bolts totally fixed it....Also - when took that "cowl" off, someone else posted before about that random rubber piece on the passenger side, do you think its okay to discard that? I couldn't really figure out where it needed to be seated?
I think the rubber piece is supposed to be a flapper(damper) for one of the A/C intake vents, however I could never find any way to keep the stupid thing attached to anything, so I just left it laying in the cavity. BTW-thanks dna404
If you take a look at the pic I have in this post, you will see where the black flap goes. The plastic tabs fit over the sheet metal that is under the windshield, and the piece sits directly below the center air vents that are part of the cowl that is removed to do this fix. It's sole purpose is to stop larger debris from funneling down into the cabin air intake system.
ahhhh ok I see it..i'll put it back in tomorrow maybe when I have some free time
Looks like you took your hood off to do yours? or you really snuck the camera way under at that angle? either way thanks for the location for that thing!
