Fluid flow sound from the front passenger side?

When I was in buddy of mine Altima 05 3.5, we both heard some kind of fluid flowing sound coming from the dash behind the front passanger, maybe in the engine bay area. I tried to hear it from the outside, but I can't hear anything other than the engine noise.

My buddy can re-produce the sound by rev'ing the engine, even between 1500-2000rpm is good enough to hear that fluid flow from somewhere to somewhere. Checked the radiator and it seems full. However, the coolant level is very low, even below the MIN level when the engine was cold.

Checked mine (I have a 2.5 Altima) and the coolant level is that low as well, but I don't get that sound.

It leaves nothing on the ground so at least it's not leaking from what we can tell.

Any ideas what it could be? Appreciate your help.

Sounds like air in the heater core. That can happen after a coolant flush or if your coolant gets too low, letting air in the system. Mines did it after a flush, i dident know how to get rid of it, but it went away on its own. I'm pretty sure someone else here could tell you how to get the air out.

Sounds like not a big deal then. I should probably top up mine then before I have the same problem. Should I get the coolant from Nissan?

Thanks for your reply.

IMHO, any name brand glycol based (green) coolant should be fine. Just be sure your put in a 50/50 of coolant and distalled water.

Its def air in the system, but I would suggest finding out where the air came from instead of just filling it. I had the same problem in my 03 2.5 and when I investigated I found a noticeable leak in the top tank, radiator had to be replaced.

Speedo,

Here is a TSB on raising the front end to get air out of the coolant system.

Service Bulletins Nissan Cars

(FYI- I used the existing overflow bottle but just mounted it above the engine)

I used to work for nissan. The noise your hearing is coolant. You have a very slow leak somewhere. The reason I know is because I have the same prob. Eventually your alti will idle really shitty. Its normal on most imports when your coolant is low. You have to elevate your car slightly and disconnect your overflow hose. Connect it to a bottle of some kind and hang it from your hood. Start your car and remove the rad cap. This is how the nissan techs do it. It takes quite a while but the noise will go away. Your not alone with tis prob
