Very nice there is nothng like a clean black car. I too have the black Altima and I wish it was as easy to keep looking clean like a white one. I spent 3 hours the other dya cleaning mine and it started to rain about halfway through so then it turned into a clean the garage quick so I can finish the job. I even got a few good comments on it at the car show but the ding in my rear passenger door stood out like a sore thumb and everyone who saw it said that's a shame. I'm going to take it in to the body sho this week to have them quote me a price. It's not dented it just looks like a perfect circle of paint popped off and it has a raised edge in te paint. Got a couple othr small touchups I want done too.

I'm lost here, cause white is also extremely hard to keep clean. Wash car and don't dry it asap before driving and all the water spots on the rear bumper and trunk turn to dirt/dust rings that stand out. Front bumper is a bitch because some higher being decided to make bug guts dark colors instead of transparent or light colors. Now when the car collects that thin layer of dust it still looks clean, it's invisible to the eye. That is until someone or something brushes up against the care and now you have a build up that really stands out....I clean my car once a week, wax it once a month but I rinse it off every other day!

yeah me 2 the weather is soo freakin unpredictable.. esp with a black or a white car in your case.. ill occasionally check the weather and if i see it nice for the next few days il go out and take care of everything and then these weathermen change the forecast and they do a 180 and say it rains and guess wut.. all my hard work goes down the drain

technically the detail job goes to shit as soon as you walk away from detailing it or that 1st drive. Thats why everyone always takes as many pics as possible after a fresh detail. There's nothing like driving around feeling proud of your detail job, besides the people starring at you wondering why you got a big grin on your face!

I appreciate all the comments and input on my car, now to touch on some of your questions:

1. The porter cable orbital buffer is amazing, its the same one I've been using since 05, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. It was worth the $150 I paid for it, I mean I think it did a nice job in assisting me in making my car shiny, on numerous occasions.

2. I use pinnacle souverain wax as stated in my first post. Some people think that it is too expensive because the can of wax is around $70 but, it last for about 25 applications, and it is designed in florida for the climate that ours cars see which is one of the worst in the nation. It puts the natural oils that get sucked out of the paint back into it. It IS the best wax I have ever used.... .....hands down

3. I did my tails with hobby tint spray, and a clear laquer, about 4 coats of black tint and 2 coats of clear, u can still see through it, but its a very nice smoked look.

so i gotta ask, why polish then wax? never understood the polishing, seems folks with the black cars have to do a good bit more, like clay bar, polish, and so on

polish is to remove oxidation, marring, swirls and other types of paint damage....polishing can also be referred to as paint correcting.

I bought a PorterCable 7424 for $200 from autogeek. The kit I bought came with 7 or 8 pads, pad cleaner and conditioner, microfiber and velcro backing plate. Shipping killed me over here in Hawaii but if you sub to their forum you can get free shipping if your in the upper 48 states.

My next detail is going to be extensive!
Wash/dry
remove water spots
clay
paint cleaner
swirl/scratch removal
wash/dry
sealant
wax
rims also get a coat of sealant.
tires and wheel wells scrubbed and dressed.

So does polish remove the top coat? If you have added a body kit recently or had a few body panels repainted, will polishing the older paint get it to shine like the new paint? Or is the only way to get that shine to have the whole car repainted?
