Question How to replace thermostat on 3.5

Great forum. Searched all t'stat threads but could not come up with any on how to get the t'stat out of the engine. I have a t'stat that is open so I purchased all of the parts needed to replace the unit, but when I got to actually trying to get it out I was stumped. Seems there is not enough room to get at the bolts and then pull the unit out without somehow raising or lowering the engine. Anybody that has done this, please let me know the trick. Thanks for all replies.

Question

I do have the service manuals and the procedure is straightforward if the engine is out of the car. The problem, however, is that with the engine in the car there is virtually no room to access the bolts, and because of the length of the thermostat housing, if you did get the bolts out you will still not be able to get the thermostat housing out. It looks like you have to remove/loosen the engine mounts and rotate the engine somehow. Looking for anyone who has done this who can give me some help. Thanks, John

you will be able to get it out if you remove the relay box and bracket in front of the thermostat housing

yeah everywhere was about $40 bucks. thats why i got mine from napa auto it was $16 with a new sticky gasket and inlet tube . also i looked at warranty for it. napa offers a lifetime warranty against defects. that is much longer than others 1-3 year warranty.
