This is a very good question. The dome circuits on all of the Gen3 cars get brighter and dim. The duration for both is app 3 seconds. On a standard incandescent bulb, this will create a brightening and dimming effect. With a LED bulb, the effect is a little different. A LED bulb will operate on voltage as low as 6-7 volts, when a standard bulb will not. In most instances that I have seen, the LED bulb may flicker a little as the voltage is increased or decreased, and while it is 'technically' not good for the leds, I have yet to see an adverse reaction. TBH, standard bulbs do not like it much either...When is the most common time for a bulb to blow??? Either turning on or off.

Pretty good description done by nissan2003 in post #6. I will have the link up shortly for the bulb I used in my car, but it is a #37 or #74 bulb. That applies to the 02-04 models. Edit...photos added, posts 19 &20. Nice job.

I can only speak for the automatic shifter for certain, but the bulb in that one is a #74. In the automatic, the diffuser that contains the lettering..P,N,D,3,2,1, has an orange film on the back of it that gives it it's color. The bulb itself is just a plain old bulb. Pics below show mine. I cut a new diffuser out of opaque, white plastic and used vinyl lettering. The color of any bulb will shine through this well. I have been asked about the plastic I used, and it came from one of those pieces that you find inside a 3-ring binder that helps protect the sheets of paper...

The way it used to be, in blue...

Currently, in white...

How to: Remove ignition key ring light Pt1

I am not responsible if anything happens to you if you get shocked with 50,000 volts haha jk but seriously disconnect the negative battery terminal.

STEP 1.
Pry the little plastic ring as shown below its really easy. If you cant do this then your just a plain dumba** haha.

Step 2
Remove the fuse lid located on driver side just pull it towards you. This shows one of the two screws.

Step 3
Remove both of these screws located on the left and right as shown.
Left
Right

Step 4
Pull on the HVCA control panel just a little bit till it becomes somewhat loose.

Step 5
Pull the underpanel it will just come off really easy.

How to: Remove ignition key ring light Pt2

Step 6
Now this step you don't have to remove the dimmer switch but it helps and you don't have a chance on accidentally stepping on it and ripping the cables I learned my lesson. Just remove it k.

Step 7
Now you car should look like this. Grab the clear ring and it pull it towards you it will slide off. Don't yank it hard just give it a little wiggle it WILL come off.

Step 8
Pull the clear ring towards you after you take it off slowly. Its kinda hard but just keep pulling exposing more wire to work with. Then just turn bulb counter clockwise and VOILA there it is the bulb just take it out and slap on the L.E.D.

To install everything just do above in reverse order k

I followed all the steps for to change the key ring. but my leds stay on all the time know. Does anybody know why this is.

Is it bad for the battery to be running this led at all times.

Thats weird and I mean it wont drain your battery since that led dont use alot of energy but it not normal for it stay on maybe one of you doors is not closed properly or something. They key ring is suppose to turn off on its own. When you take the key out it turns on. Did it always do this or no before you put the new led. Is the led on when the car is on as well or no. You are the first with this problem I think. Talk to vleds or pm bt2580 they should know something if you bought the led from them.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have this black ring with wires in it around my ignition ring. I think that might have something to do with it becuase of its close proximity to the ring. I really have no idea.

The light has never acted this way before. Normaly when the car was on, it was off. And then when turning off the car it would stay on for a minute or two.

Any advice that anyone has would be great. I just don't want my battery to die.

hHHHmmmm maybe some those wires are messing with the key ring lights. Since you moved them maybe the wires are touching or something like that. Check your wires tho. I have never herd anything like this from members on here,

is there a way to change the color of the light like where ur speedometer and all that stuff is? Because I just got a new head unit which has blue lights around its dials and everything and the orange and the blue look kind of tacky.
