OBD scanner for ABS?

Hey guys,

I've got an '02 2.5S and the ABS started wigging out after I did some maintenance (axles, bearings, rear hubs, rotors and pads).

Under anything more than extrememly light pressure on the brake pedal I get a cycling of the ABS. Maybe 10 pulses, then back to normal for a few feet then antother series of pulses. I'm pretty sure that one of the wheel speed sensors is acting up and I would like to isolate which one.

So I was wondering, is there an over the counter code scanner out there that can pull the ABS codes on our cars?

The closest dealer to me is 3 hours away and the last time I had it there it turned into a huge engine replacement fiasco, so if I can avoid that route, I'd feel much better.

So is there a code scanner that can pull ABS codes?

Cheers
Brett

you probably disconnected/damaged the wire to the wheel speed sensor while doing the work .

autozone reads codes for free .

you could try pulling out the ABS fuse until you get the problem fixed .

good luck .

I hate to tell you this but to the best of my knowledge, you'll have to g to the dealer to get those codes read. I had the same problem and tried several scanners but they couldn't isolate the problem other than saying it was an ABS problem. I'm not saying there isn't a scanner out there that can do it but it won't be any over the counter scanner....

After digging through the service manual, I found a way to get ABS codes without Consult-II.

1. Drive over 20mph for 1 minute.
2. Turn ignition off.
3. Ground pin-9 of the data link harness
4. Turn ignition on. (Do not hit the brake pedal or start the engine)
5. After 3 seconds the ABS will start flashing two-digit codes.

Looking at all the stuff you can do with the Consult-II though it's be nice to have but at $7000 not really an option.

Cheers

Even though it was the LF wheel that the ABS was cycling on, the Code given was 36 Rear Left Wheelspeed. I'll order up a new one post if that fixes it.
