ECM Location?

O.K. New here.
I have an '02 Altima 2.5 automatic. I have been told by two mechanics that my ECM (Engine Computer)is bad. I want to get one at a salvage yard to save a bunch of cash, so I need to know where it is. I was told at a salvage yard that it's under the center console. I assume this is under the stereo and in front of the shifter? Is this correct? If not, please let me know.

Also, if anyone would have a pic or two of it and it's location, that would be great!
Thanks!!

The ECU is located behind the glove box. Your going to have to drop the glove box and you will see it to the right of the blower motor. There are 6 or 7 screws that hold the glove box in place and then you have to pull on it a little bit to release the clips. What exactly is the problem your having that makes mechanics say you have to replace your ECU? Those don't usually go bad, unless it gets fried by an electrical malfunction.

^ Correct. You'll also need to reprogram the new one for your ignition to work, should you replace it.

Thanks a bunch guys!
Now if I get another ECU, can a "regular" mechanics shop re-program it, or do I need to take it to Nissan to do that? Is this re-programing just for the ECU to recognize my key, or something else?

They'll also have to program in your vin #, in case you have to have smog cert. Also you need to get one from a car with the same trans and accessories as your car. Most everything on these cars goes through the ecu.

Traded 10/10/11 for a 2012 Hyundai Genesis Track Coupe.

Nope. It requires a Consult II scan tool and a registered version of Nissan ASIST electronic service manual. Two things that only the dealer has.
