02 altima wont start

i changed the thermostat in the car, bleed the sytem car was fine. the next day the car would not start. it would turn over and occasionally sputter. after about half hour it started.when it did start the car sputtered then stop and eveything was fine. when the car is running it has no problem at all runs perfect. its has done this to me 3 times already.

I doubt the thermostat or bleeding the system has anything to do with what's going on now, it seems to be only a coincidence. How many miles?, plug wires tight and good? tune up ever been done? battery test good?

car has 103k on it. battery is good tune up is recent. at one point i took the spark plugs out and they were drenched in gas i dried them put them back in and the car fired up smoked but then stopped. no check engine light

Common problem so I have to ask, did you ever get the crankshaft position sensor recall done? Its worth a shot, price is not expensive. Don't want to start throwing money at parts, but it may solve your issue.

sensor has never been changed that i know of i bought the car last year and its been great since.

Well if its the original sensor, they are notoriously crappy. Nissan had the sensor redesigned later;the newer ones look completely different. That's what these car companies get for always going with the cheapest bidder.

I know the old one was mostly plastic and the newer ones from what I have seen are metallic. I had both my camshaft and crankshaft position sensors changed under warranty.

SPARK - AIR - FUEL. Depending on the mileage you may need to change your fuel pump (includes fuel filter) in the gas tank.

My car takes a while to fire up from a cold start. Once I shut it off and immediately restart it, it fires back up to life and runs perfectly.

i will deffinately look into that. could they still go bad n the check engine light not b on?

Damn, so far back. I think when my crank position sensor went, the SES light came on; the car shut off while waiting at a traffic light. When the camshaft position sensor went, I noticed an EXTREME loss of power - NO SES light there.

if it were any of these 2 sensors would the car still run. because when it does start the car runs fine.
