Altima Weight

Ok, I know there has been a lot of speculation on what the Altima actually weighs. I couldn't find an actual thread about it, but I do remember lots of little discussions/arguments in other threads about it, so I thought I'd throw this out there.

What I've always done to calculate the weight is take the GVWR of 4374lb and subtract the vehicle capacity weight of 860lb to get a weight of 3514lb.

I've noticed that the local truck weigh station on the highway seems to leave their scales on all the time even though they are closed more than they are open. So tonight, just out of curiosity I put the Alti on the scales to see what it would say. It kept flashing between 3360 and 3380 (Apparently the scale is only accurate down to 20lb intervals). I only weigh about 130-135, so that puts the car somewhere around 3225-3245. I expected it to weigh more. My car has every option except heated seats.

Has anyone else weighed their car at the track or otherwise?

3,180 w/ no driver with 1/2 a tank of gas. Would be lighter without the sunroof. I was just as surprised when I saw it. I was expecting 3,500+

EDIT: It's funny to think that with a little weight loss the Altima could go into the 2,9XX range.

^^Yeah, I always thought these cars were heavyweights. Surprised the heck out of me. I forgot to add my car had about 1/2 tank as well.

29xx? That's almost 4th gen max range

Always thought it was 3,200 and change...Which pretty much backs up Leathe's deal.

I also weighed in at 3180.

How could we get to 29xx? I don't see much else to do besides stripping the car. I wouldn't like to do that.

manual adjust racing seats would be a good 30 lbs lighter than power seats each
no spare will take about 30 lbs off , factory jack weighs approx 5 lbs
removing floor mats , all trunk mats , spare tire cover all equal about 8-10 lbs
a carbon fiber braille battery will save you about 20-25 lbs
lighter rims and tires , enkei RPF1's in 17x8" are about 2.5-3 lbs lighter than SE-R rims and about 5 lbs lighter than stock SE rims each .
coilovers are probably lighter than the stock suspension
headers are lighter
removing cat and installing straight pipes is lighter
running a single exhaust with a light weight muffler should be lighter

to go further you would have to :

light weight flywheel
aluminum calipers and 2 piece rotors
remove sound deadening
have a glass shop make you a lexan replacement for your sunroof
lexan rear windows
remove A/C
