Angry It finally happened to me!

After 4 years of bragging about how I thought clutch pedal falling only seemed to happen in humid climates, mine finally pulled that crap on me tonight on the way to the store! I was pulling into the parking lot and pushed in the pedal to slip into a parking spot, the pedal stayed on the floor, and the clutch stayed engaged. To stop the car I had to pull the shifter into neutral. Fortunately the spot I picked was far away from the store and I could get out forward. Every light I came to on the way home I'd pull it into neutral, and when it'd go green, I had to kill the engine and put it into 1st gear and start it in gear. Then by finessing the throttle I was able to shift and get the car home. What a pain. Good old Nissan masters and/or slaves! Gotta just love them. My old TR-6 did that to me once, but had the courtesy to wait till it had 150,000 miles on it before it happened. My 3.5SE has 67,500 miles on it. I have aftermarket warranty but hate to go to a dealer for anything if I can avoid it! I'll take it in tomorrow and hope it still does it so I don't get the dreaded, "Cannot reproduce problem!" accompanied by, "If it ain't broke, we can't fix it!"

Bummer man. Did you check the lines to make sure you dont have a leak? I assume you did but its worth throwing out there.

I had the same problem with my 06 Altima 3.5 SE MT. It usually seemed to happen when encountering stop and go conditions after periods of heavy driving. I must have gone to the dealership 10 times for system checks for leaks and trying to bleed air out. Since it is supposed to be a hydraulic system, I eventually went to pumping my clutch pedal in stop and go traffic. My car has 96,000 miles on it now, but I had the stock clutch and fly wheel replaced at 85,000. I went with a Stage 2 Spec clutch and an aluminum flywheel. I haven't had the problem since.....yet.

I took it to the dealer this morning and they said it's the pressure line from the master to the slave. That's what I thought after I saw the res. empty and brake fluid all over the bell housing, this morning after checking the level (which was OK then) yesterday morning before all this started. My rt. motor mount is bad too and I have a heatshield rattling like a pig, all of which falls under my extended warranty. My only gripe is that they rented me a car and I got stuck with a Mercury Grand Marquis..."piece 'o crap" cop car!!! LOL! Believe it or not...no press. lines to be had in Vegas, so I had to leave the car while one is brought from LA!

I have the same issue and it's annoying. Only happens after heavy use of the clutch, like in stop and go traffic. Let us know what happens...

I moved from SoCal to Georgia. I went to several different Nissan dealerships and no one was ever able to find leaks in my system. For me, the "problem" fixed itself once I upgraded my clutch and flywheel. I doubt those parts actually affected my "problem", but I never had the master cylinder replaced and the problem has not occured again....yet.

Sorry for the delay in getting back here with the fix. My computer's been acting up, so I got delayed. The dealer replaced the master to slave pressure line and flushed and bled the system. The sinking of the pedal was due to a ruptured pressure line. There was brake fluid all over the bell housing. The clutch works fine now. No problems at all with the master or slave, so it was not the typical "sinking clutch" problem. While there they replaced an A/C line that had a leak, and replaced the right motor mount. They rented me a car for two days, as well. My entire cost on the extended plan was $50.

IMO Nissan Masters are still crap....I don't know if i'm the only one but my brake master cylinder failed on me at the same mileage you have also....replaced it (not @ stealership) and it seems better now but its not 100% complete perfect fix...more like 70-80%...I asked a tech @ Nissan if Nissan Masters fail often and he says they'll rarely ever get a car in with a master cylinder problem... but i baby the crap out of the car so having this problem is

That's exactly what my mechanic recommended based on the symptoms I described. He said to replace the master & slave cylinder since there is probably moisture/air in the line. Apparently, it's much cheaper to replace the master & slave vs the whole clutch(?)

Where did you purchase the master & slave cylinder? Cost?

Interesting, I switched to DOT4 and didn't have any issues. Then after about 15K miles, peddle lost pressure and sank to the floor again after heavy use of the clutch in stop and go traffic.

Pretty sure the master & slave cylinder needs to be replaced on my Alti.

Damn, this whole time I thought it was just a loose clutch pedal. I was able to replicate the stuck to the floor clutch pedal when I was removing parts from the 5 speed donor car. When I loosed the nuts and pressed the pedal down, it got stuck and I had to pry it back up by hand.

Now i'm really debating whether I should invest in a new master and slave cylinder.....i'd rather do this once.
