Question Gas Cap & Engine Light

Hi All
Yesterday my Check Engine Soon light came on. Since this happened once before I immediately checked the gas cap and sure enough the piece of plastic that holds the cap when it's off, got caught. I fixed it but the light is still on. My question is will it eventually reset itself? I normally drive very short distances but if I take it out on the highway will it run an internal test again and turn itself off?
Thanks

It will go away in less then 30 miles. You can unplug your battery for a couple of seconds and it should reset, but you will lose all of your radio stations and the time will have to set again lol.

I had to replace my gas cap completely because the light came on. I tried an Autozone cap and the issue came back a couple weeks later because it would not seal correctly.

I bought an OEM cap and you can feel it seals and the problem was solved, no more issues.

Thanks....I don't think there's anything wrong with the cap, just the guys who take it on and off. I'll drive it awhile and see what happens.

This happened to my wife's accord this past week. After getting the code read she took the cap off and put it back on with a couple clicks when tight. In 2-3 days the code disappeared on its own.
