Thats not too bad, I was just up that way at Rickett's Glen the friday before christmas had some pretty nice weather for a hike, 40* at the bottom and snowing at the top and probably some of the most water I have seen flowing over the falls in a long time. I don't know if I would drive that far to work on a car all day then drive back, maybe in the summer time when I have good tires on and we could hit up some good backroads or something.

Makes sense and figures since its the most difficult to change.

After driving for 2 days with nylatron side, front, and transmission mounts here are my impressions. I couldn't figure out what it sounded like but on the way home I narrowed it down. It honestly sounds like a Subaru when starting off and any lower rpm shift. If I didn't know any better I'd say it was missing a cylinder.. or two when you rev it a little (in neutral) but it smooths right out around 3k. I can't quite make sense of that but it is what it is. That roughness is translated through the car when you first start off but past that the vibration isn't bad and is completely unnoticeable at highway speeds. For lack of better terms the car feels very solid and throttle response is immediate. The car sounds and feels angry (in a good way). The transmission noise picked up a lot but not to a bad level. It has a fairly loud whine at lower rpms but is, once again, barely noticeable at highway speeds/rpms. I should add that my transmission has always had a very obvious whine. Obviously these are my impressions from inside the car but I can't wait to get an outside the car assessment.

I'm still curious about what the car would be like with 3 nylatron mounts an a stock side engine mount. In the meanwhile I'm going to track down which Nissan engineer was responsible for the 5th bolt on the transmission mount and kick his/her cat.

Update: 11 days later and with the exception of a little roughness when starting off most of the vibrations are now unnoticeable. I guess there is a "break in period" for the mounts. The Subbie sound and the transmission whine are still there but I've pretty much gotten used to that.

Red Lion should have gotten my mounts (3 of 4) this past Friday Altima3568 so now its your turn.

Trying to keep this on the first page, so it doesn't go anywhere, because I have all four mounts, but want to know if it is the passenger mount causing all the vibration the OP is complaining about.

Any new updates?

I'm not an expert at this (at all). But, I am having the same problem with my '04 2.5L Altima. I've checked with a few mechanics & friends. For my Altima it is the RF (passenger side) mount that has started to fail first. If I don't replace/fix it, it could eventually lead to the other mounts starting to fail... The replacement part I've seen runs around $30ish new. There's a JY with tons of Altima's near me. I most likey will put the OEM RF part in there. The original has lasted 8+ years. I'd be happy if the replacement Mount lasts half that amount of time. There isn’t enough general consensus on a single after market part to make me want to install one

I can't take credit for this, but the below notes are from a different forum.

Oldnuc-
“For the motor mounts to work properly the engine must have an even smooth idle. That means good even compression. Clean flow balanced injectors… If you have an uneven idle you will never reduce the vibration to zero… “ (and subsequently will shorten the life of your motor mounts)

Oldnuc-
“What you are attempting to accomplish is restrain the engine free of motion, as much as possible, without going absolutely solid. “

After replacing the 1 RF motor mount. I 100% plan on checking into other possible factors that may have caused the OEM mount to fail; starting with chamber compression, fuel injectors (after 7+ years sending them off to get flow balanced and professionally cleaned isn’t a bad idea), in addition checking other common components that effect engine idle (IAC valve, throttle bottle, spark plugs, exhaust, MAF sensor, EGR, and etc..)

Donny, you're out of your element

I'm just joking around but the vibrations we're talking about are normal and the reason why Nissan designed plush mounts. Unfortunately the price you pay for a smooth "feeling" idle is a mount that can tear under the stresses a torquey V6 can place on them.

Cool. I'd rather just have the front/rear and tranny bushings pressed in, and keep the passenger side stock, if it helps to alleviate a little bit of what you are complaining about. Any reduction in vibration is a good thing, I already have F/R RL inserts and my motor is still bucking.

Keep us posted, otherwise I'll just do the front/rear, leave the rest stock and call it a day.

update: okay, installed the passenger side mount back to OEM yesterday. What a huge difference! i couldnt be happier. my car doesnt shake/rattle/vibrate no where near as much as it used to with all solid mounts.

thanks redlion for providing me with the oem mount. i shipped my nylatron mount back to you. how much do you charge for a passenger nylatron mount? im trying to figure out how to price my used one when you send it back to me.

^I price it at $45.

I knew it that it'd be the passenger mount. It's design is just weird and somehow I figured it would be the culprit.
