A/C not blowing cold , were to start?

2002 Altima 2.5L SL

97K Miles and idles/runs perfect. Runs at normal temp all the time. New plugs and a fresh battery.

I have a digital service manual, its pretty good and very informative. Also I have a friend that started troubleshooting/ repairing/ installing home A/C since he was a kid with his grandfather and father. He can sweat, repair and fab. He also does automotive A/C too.

But I know most if not all of you are familiar with the Altima's A/C system more than we are so we need some guidance as to what would make the A/C blow around 85+Deg all the time out of the vents. Regardless of the A/C button on/off , Recirc on/off and other vent position combinations. What should I look at/troubleshoot first?

Or is this system a standard auto A/C setup that he will know whats up by just looking at it?

He's gonna come by when he can one weekend and help me make it 110%. I was hoping to get some recon from you guys so when he does it will help us out alot.

Thanks ,

Its a regular standard A/C. Check the fuses just to be sure that the ones that control the A/C switch etc are good. Next you will want to visually inspect all the lines etc. under the hood as well as as make sure the A/C clutch is engaging when the A/C switch is on. Next, ofcourse, you will need to check the refrigerant oil level to ensure your compressor isnt running low or worse, dry. Mechanically, if al is well, and the refrigerant is low, and refrigerant with the dye additive, and run as normal for a few days, and check with an ultra violet light for leaks.

Like mentioned, do a visual inspection. But, leaks are not always visually identifiable. if everything seems ok, take it to a shop you trust and have them do a quick pressure test, that will tell you if you have a leak or not,a bad compressor, or even a blockage. Dont put new refrigerant in till you do this, because if you have a leak, it will come back to the same issue. If you do have a leak, it will have to be repaired , which can be expensive. good luck

Same problem may be fixed!
96 Altima
I hadn't changed out my antifreeze in several years...
Completely flushed out my coolant, then flushed out with a radiator cleaner and flushed out again with clean water until it ran out clear... All flushes with the heat on hot! Then filled with 50/50 antifreeze mix as is recommended.

Think about it... The computer is telling the AC to shut off because it senses that the engine is too hot to put any more strain on itself!

Now I have Cold AC even in 105 degree temperatures outside!

The Nissan experts said I would have to replace the compressor, etc.

Good Luck!
