Ok, now I don't mean this to sound retarded or anything.... but this is seriously the dumbest thing (in my opinion) that can happen.
I own a 2005 Altima 3.5SE, and it now has 164,000KM (km... not miles) on it. We've had it since 85k km. Ever since we've had it, its done the same thing, and hasn't bothered me that much up until now.
Whenever the gas gauge gets below half a tank... the engine sometimes does a near-stall. As in the RPM's drop completely off to almost zero, then kicks back in. If you don't take your foot off the gas when you feel the lag... it kicks in like a bat-out-of-hell. It predominately does it on left turns only.... and yes, only when it's on or near half a tank. It doesn't do it on right turns.... and rarely from the pick-up off a red light.
So the reason I left it for 3 years was because when I brought it in to one local Nissan dealership, they had the car for 4 hours, confirmed that it lagged and almost stalled, but didn't "dig into the meat of the problem" and stuffed me with a $500 service bill. They told me it would probably cost another $1,000 to drop the tank and check both sensors and the fuel filter. Needless to say, I left angry, and decided to not go back. I've been a bit hesitant to even have another Nissan dealership look at it... and of course I've always just "dealt with it". However, tonight the car actually stalled after a left turn... and that concerns me.

Any suggestions on what it could be?
Possibly...
A crack or hole in the rubber tubing on the fuel pump or even the pump itself. The pump is located under the driver side of the rear seat. When the car is making a left turn, inertia will cause the gas in the tank to shift more to the right hand side of the vehicle, possibly allowing the fuel pressure to falter for a moment.

sounds like when u r turning left the gas must be moving to the right side of the tank and the pump/sending unit must not be picking up and sending the fuel properly and stalls u out
It is a retarded problem but i've had this problem on my 12 Equanox but repairs were taken care of under warranty so i don't really know what they replaced. I'll try to look for the service papers. Could probably be something similar in our Altimas.
