Hi guys,
Hope you are doing all great.
My Nissan 2006 modal is having an issue where the steering wheel gets stiff, particularly at 90 degree. If I turn left or right at 90 degrees it gets stiff and as soon as I reach 95 degree it would go smooth until it hits 270 degree. (Picture attached)
It was raining heavily and there was a lot of water on the road, around 1 to 1.3 feet deep. Without realizing that it can harm the car I drove into it and two days after when it was sunny, I started facing this issue.
I went to local garage and they asked me to replace the pump. I paid them and was told that car would be back to normal in a day or two. But that never happened and I asked them to check the power steering pump again. There is no leak or loss of pressure in the pump. The guy is now telling me that it could be the rack, the rack that connects with steering wheel. So I need to change the whole rack and that is the only want to fix it. I told the guys that I was reading on some website and one guy was talking about loss of lubricant or grease, which garage man rejects.
But I am wonder why would it work smooth at times then? Like today morning it was working just fine and it was raining last and today morning it's sunny. I noticed it last week too that the next day after it rains, steering wheel works fine and then it goes back to being stiff.
I have a 15 month baby and I am really worried if my cars steering wheel gets locked or something on the highway. Since I am not a car smart guy I just want to make sure I am not getting ripped off like I was for power pump. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Hitin
