Ya this is my third third gen, and I've loved them all a little more.... I'm a hell of an negotiator (and I'm nice about it) plus I got lucky a couple times. The first car was an 02 I bought in November 2002-- they wanted to get it off the lot. I drove 3 hours for the car-- negotiated the price online and they told me what they'd give me for my trade without even seeing it.
The first 05 I bought on a weekend that a dealership had "relaunched" after being refurbished/rebuilt, June 04 I bought an 05. So in a way I got ahead 3 model years in 18 months. [Luck]. The sales manager gave it to me way cheap. They wanted to sell a certain # of cars that weekend. 2 hours from home.
The SE-R is 05 and was bought in June or July 05. It wasn't a super deal, I think I got it for 26 something, it had XM built in and a few other additional costs, plus they went to Silver Springs Maryland to get it for me-- about 3-5 hours? Not sure. Dealer 1 hour from home. I demanded red inserts and they got me red inserts nearing the end of the 05 availability of SE-R's before 06's came out. I paid less than I could have for a red one, but I was ok with it. I wanted black or gray with red inserts.
I've had 5 year loans on each of them, and within 12 - 18 months, I've found a dealer that would give me more for it than I had left on the loan. In that case, I say, "Why not?" I had super low loan rates too, like 4.5, 4.84 and 4.08 so that helped out in getting more loan and less interest paid off.
When you don't "need" a new car it's a lot easier to deal. Hopefully I'll stick with this one a little longer. I've also realized if the dealer thinks you love Nissan and are an entheusiast, and tell them straight up if you have a great experience there you will tell everyone who is car shopping, they seem more willing to cut to the chase. I'm honest, I do tell people when I have a good buying experience.
I've also managed to assist in having a service manager swapped out due to my continual and unrelentless customer surveys. I'm all about service. Nissan's all about service, any dealer that isn't should be shut down. {end rant}
Back onto the rattles.....
I've noticed having three latest gen altimas, at least with the brick roads around here, things seem to get rattley around 10K and a little worse at 12K, and the most I've had on one was 27K but they didn't seem to get any worse after 12K.
Maybe nissan will have enough cash and time to spend on quieting down the interior. Things fit so tightly even a temperature change causes things. The left side of my rpm ring sqeaks like styrofoam pieces being rubbed together when its HOT. My sunroof rattles when its COLD. So far, my only solution has been to use the radio dial...
I had a lot of nit picky things on the 2002 that I needed fixed. I have a few on the first gen 05. I have had nearly no complaints at all about the SE-R, and likely would feel the same about any 05 "third gen second edition". My only complaint is the driver's door doesn't align right when I open it (closing is fine), it thuds up or down. But not all the time. Dealer adjusted once, its not constant so, I just live with it
3.5/4 years has definitely taught me to chill on the sqeak freak. If it happens on every one, I can accept the fact that it's normal, and at least some of the time, not feel OCD about stopping it, and just turn the radio up.
Not all the time.
