Resurfacing Flywheel

Who's had it done? How much did you pay for it? replacing my clutch, putting the stock clutch back in and the guy doing it for me just came and told that instead of $48 to resurface the flywheel it will be $180??? He keeps telling me it's because the flywheel is a double wall? Please excuse my ignorance I am not a mechanic by any means but those this make sense to any of you?

You may not be able to resurface the 3rd gen flywheel. I was previously told that you could not by the dealer.(note that dealers ussually will want you to pay for a replacement rather than do a resurface, there are also warranty issues involved).

If you have your own mechanic they may be able to resurface, but im not sure.

I did it with my Zcar. They usually cut or grind it. Cutting is usually done on a brake lathe. Just take it to a machine shop that has a brake lathe or a flywheel grinder. If a machine shop doesnt have this type of equipment, find one that does.

Most of the time a dual mass flywheel cannot satisfactorily be resurfaced.

I changed my flywheel + clutch last week and the OEM one can't be resurfaced as new... so i know it's money but it's your time to do it carefully!!

JWT Flywheel + JWT Pressure plate & Clutch combo!

And if you have more money, do it like me and do your LSD upgrade!!!

can't resurface it. If you have a warranty left it WILL cover the flywheel. You just have to fight for it.

350z clutch is a direct replacement right? Any particular years? Does it have better bite?

A resurfaced flywheel is in actuality a bad practice, even if not a dual mass like we have. Anytime you remove metal from the flywheel, you are increasing the distance between the pressure plate and the flywheel, maybe even only microscopically. What this does with a self adjusting clutch, as in our case...hydraulic, you are removing a tiny amount of the usefullness of the clutch plate that is being installed. In other words, the new clutch may not last as long as the original did, simply because you are widening the gap between the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces, when the clutch is engaged. I hope you all see what I mean. In the real world, it may not make that much of a difference, but there is a difference. That is why I believe it best to go with a new flywheel and all other clutch parts upon replacement.

Do you have the part number for just the JWT flywheel? Already bought the clutch and pressure plate, the stock ones.

JWT FLYWHEEL = LATL2-NF000

OEM CLUTCH = 30100-7Y010
