Transmission whine

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted anything. I have a minor issue with my transmission. A few months ago, I noticed this whining buzzing sound in first and second gears. The noise is more noticeable downshifting esp into second gear, but can hear when accelerating (probably happens in higher gears, just may not be able to hear because of road noise etc). Step on the clutch, it goes away. Not sure if it is the throwout bearing or may need new MTF change. Clutch fluid level is fine.
Car is an 05 SER with 50K on it. I've searched for a while on this but haven't really seen anything like this issue.
Any help is appreciated.

thanks

Might be the bearings or synchros.

Please understand WHY I am saying this....but are you sure its coming from the tranny? I had a similar whining/buzzing noise down low that I thought may be coming from the tranny. I checked underneath my car and found a power steering leak. Lowered the car checked the PS fluid and it was more than half way gone. Filled it back up, and the whine went away. Now just have to replace the PS pump and it will be fixed the right way. Do yourself a favor and check your PS fluid before you get all scared about tranny issues. Now if the PS fluid is full, I would then turn my attention elsewhere, like the syncros. You just want to rule out the easier stuff 1st or you will give yourself a heart attack. lol

Thanks.. I wish it was something that easy, ps fluid is fine. Additionally, when the car is idling in neutral, it makes a very low whirring type sound until I step on the clutch.
I shouldn't say this, but the problem started when my son and wife drove the car from Western NY to VA. I don't want to point the finger of blame and regardless, I need to get it fixed. Coincidental - that's when it started.
This car has been just about flawless (except for the sinking clutch pedal issue - which rarely happens) for 6+ years that I've owned it. I don't drive much in winter that's why the low mileage.
I was hoping a mts fluid change would help and will do that once the snow melts.
Thanks

I had the same type of problem, and after spending a long time trying to figure it out, I took it to the shop. It was my third gear ring, and it was shattered. They had to replace the entire tranny.

I might be having the same problem guys as well. I have been noticing a high pitch buzzing sound coming from somewhere around the front of the car. It doesn't hurt the ears or not super loud either, but it is there. I don't know if it happens when I turn or turning, but the sound goes away I think when the car is idling or I let go of the gas. I have to trouble shoot it again to make sure it's not the power steering leak or what not.

You know how sometime when you're next to some industrial building and next to like water pipes you hear a buzzing sound, or like electrical towers have that buzz, well that's kind what I'm hearing. It only started happening a couple of days ago.

If you guys can share some input I would gladly appreciate it. I hope it's not tranny, which I don't think it is. I changed my alternator belt last week, and I don' think it's that either but not sure. Could it be the tensioner for any of the belts? Thank you for your help people.
