Cam Install. A few last questions.

Well, I did the big boy jump and finally bought cams and springs. I am hoping to install them within the next couple weeks. Before I jump into this I would like to sorta map out my plan of attack and get some advice from all you guys who have done this. Here are some questions and things I want to accomplish while the engine is apart:

-What gaskets will I need?
-I would like to replace the spark plugs. Suggestions? (NGK, OEM, Bosch..etc.)
-I will be removing the EGR at this time as well.

-@Aaron (05SickSer) I know you found some stuff in your oil pan when you dropped it and you had replaced some oil gaskets or something inside the timing chain area (sorry I suck at terminology). Is this something I should look at?

-Are ARP Main Studs and/or Head Studs worth getting or messing with at this point? Also, the Rod Bolts can be reached from the bottom of the engine, correct?

-Last thing I can think of is the oil pump. How much deeper into the engine do I have to go to replace this?

-Any other suggestions and input would be appreciated!!

Here is a little pic I snapped when they came in yesterday

Dont do main or head studs. you can but its not a "since its right her" thing.

Do the rod bolts so you can enjoy your new extended rev limit safely. Also get a rev- oil pump.

just replace the valve cover gaskets and the o rings seals under the timing cover.

Lol, NOW you jump on the band wagon gro???? Steeds, in order to replace the oil pump, you have to remove both the upper and lower oil pans in order to remove it. After you remove the lower oil pan, you then have to remove the oil pick up tube, and then the upper oil pan. You are aware that to install cams you have alot of parts to remove...like the side motor mount, front timing cover etc. If you need to install a new timing chain and tensioners, now would be the time. You will remove a good deal of this stuff. I agree with the RevUp oil pump, I will ALWAYS agree with this upgrade.

Hey Lawrence!!! Guess who has more questions!! lol. And yes, 'm out of breath from chasing the band wagon so I finally jumped on haha. I honestly wanted the nismo cams and springs but think/hope these will give me some more power. I am aware this is a big job. Basically why I started this thread. Just wanted some input on what to expect/keep an eye out for. I don't think I need a new timing chain and tensioners. The car runs pretty flawless as of right now. In the process looking for a RevUp oil pump as well as the ARP Rod Bolts. Hoping I can get them in the next couple weeks before I have to send the Valve Spring Tool back to JWT.

Why did you need this? Are you also installing new valves or valve springs?Oh, and the oil pump is removed from the side not from underneath. It sits directly behind the crank pulley.

Yes. The C2's require their valve springs. Ok cool. I know it was behind the crank pulley, just wasn't sure how for in the engine it went. This will be a good time to finally install my Stillen Underdrive pulley..

YEAH!!! You DID go with the C2s! As far as the oil pump, as soon as you take off the front timing cover, you can visibly see the oil pump housing, you just cant remove it unless you remove both upper and lower oil pans.

Perfect! Exactly what I wanted to know. Yea for some reason the C2's were the ones that I kept going back too. I also wanted to try something different than what you guys have. Expensive decision just to "try something different" but at least this way I can personally share how the car responds to them. C8's would've been cool but I didn't want to get into head work.

Those C2's are gonna knock you off your feet! I keep saying, with this engine, the power is alllllll locked up in the heads! The 4th gen has a better head design than ours which is one of the reasons it produces a good deal more hp. Cams will awaken "her". lol

Awesome! I'm pretty excited. I can tell there is some power hiding in that engine somewhere. It just feels like it wants to go faster than it already does.

Yes, I know! Pretty stoked! Not too many Austinites seem as excited as I am. They think it's a waste of tax dollars.. Whatever. I think it's awesome!
