Altima SE-R Owners with 125k+ Miles On ....

Since this is the prime time for hard-ridden, nut-busting driving, now is about the time when things start wearing out or breaking off. We're probably all about there or pretty close. Dedicate this thread to the favorite car you've ever owned in your life and help eachother along with those annoying fixes that were about to face. We all got the same car here, chances are we all got something to share or need something to learn. Here's to a quarter-million! 🍻

I am currently at 128,070 (when I parked it earlier coming home from work), I drive ~70 miles per day getting to and from work (35 miles each way), so here's DEFINITELY to lasting to a quarter million! lol

A few months ago my belt broke, however, I thought it was my alternator so I had that replaced with the belt. Idiot mechanic while doing so, (I had to go to work so I figured it's an easy job a mechanic can handle it - I was wrong) blew the fuseable link at the battery terminal, so I replaced that, and in the process fried my BCM. Ended up towing it to the dealer for a new BCM as well. So new alternator, belt, battery terminal and BCM. That was all at around 120K miles.

Ha damn dude that really sucks. How much was all that when all said and done? Those belt tensioners are weird if you ever saw one, it's far from typical. But regardless, a 15$ belt job into paying a warm visit to the dealer via towtruck. Never a good thing lol

Thumbs down

Yea tell me about it. I actually changed the serpentine belt myself when I first bought the car b/c it was squealing. But those damn tensioners are awful and I could never get the PS belt to come loose, so I left that.

It ended up costing me 1K with everything ($700 from the dealer and $300 from the mechanic - which I know I should have argued with the mechanic since he's the reason I had to bring it to the dealer - but I was in the middle of moving 60 miles away and just didn't get to do it). The dealer charged $425 for JUST the damn BCM, it was ridiculous . Then when I picked my car up they told me my key fob was busted (he opened it and try telling me the oil inside was actually water and it shorted) - idiot, he even tried telling me he hooked the circuit board from my key fob up to some machine for the newer(2007+) Intelligent Keys and that machine read that my fob was dead too - meanwhile I had JUST replaced the battery in it about a week prior and it worked GREAT. So I went outside and realized they pulled a fuse for my dash lights and never put it back in - therefore were unable to re-program the key fob to the new BCM(no blinkers/hazards with that fuse pulled). I put the fuse back in and re-programmed it (thank you NissanClub for the instructions I was able to find on my phone) in the parking lot with the service manager standing there, all he said was, "oh, that's why your dash lights didn't work - sorry".

Threads like this make me depressed . Our cars are definitely getting around that age. I'm the original owner of my 05 clocking in at about 71k miles and I must say that its been a pretty good 8 yrs. Aside from the typical suspension issues, the only other thing that happened to it was something with the steering where the wheel would get tight and sometimes not returned on its own whenever I turned corners. Other than that I can say that I havent had any major issues with it mechanical wise. I do feel that I need to do some tune-up related stuff even though the car is driving fine. After 8 yrs I feel inclined to do some tyhpe of preventative maintenance. I can remember doing a radiator flush and change the oil and replace batteries, thats all :x

*edit* I forgot to add that my airbag light is flashing which I was told a seatbelt connector is what was throwing the code ?

Did you ever do the air bag reset?

There is a sequence with the key and door jamb switch. I forget how to do it exactly but you turn the key Til the air bag light starts blinking initially and push the door jamb switch in and out 5 times ad then turn the key off. Somethng like that, sorry I wish I remember man

I got 170K on my 06..original owner. Only major issue I had was the tensioner whine. I had that replaced 14 months ago, and all's good. I have the annoying trunk leak now, which I think I fixed with some clear silicone.

I did have to replace a RF caliber last year as well...

Other than that, she runs great. I run 5K OCI and have used synthetic since about 50K.

Where was the trunk leaking? After the hurricane rolled through a couple months ago my trunk had about 2" of water but none since.
Also I have a strange noise coming from the pulleys. Sounds like a high pitched whine. Not overly loud. Was thinking it's the alternator. Weird thing is it goes away after a while when the car warms up..

i have 118k on mine right now... so far had to replace egr, motor mounts, and a/c hoses, and it is started to make a noise when i first start it as well but goes away after it warms up...my father in law works at the ford dealership and said he thinks going to a 5w30 from 5w20 might fix it...i guess we will see in another 1500 miles.

What prompted you to use 5W 20 in the first place?

If you are getting a ticking noise at cold start up that goes away after the car warms up. You might want to look at the rear\lower timing chain tensioner. There is an inspection cover you can remove to check it. If the guide fails and falls, the tensioner can't tighten the chain properly.

102K. Brakes, tires and the upper A/C line. The driver's heated seat botom no longer works, either. And the dash vent for the driver is broken too. 100% reliable otherwise.
