Locked i-key in trunk!

For some reason, my car allowed me to lock my i-key in the trunk the other day. Usually, if I have not unlocked the doors and I try to close the trunk with the i-key in my gym bag (for example), the trunk does not close/latch. But, this time, it latched! Crap! Had to call the wife!

This isn't supposed to happen, is it?

These i-keys are pretty cool. I've gotten very used to leaving my keys in my pocket or my gym bag, knowing that I can't screw up. But, now I can't trust it!

What might have happened?

Eph

If the keyfob is in the trunk and no other keys are present, you should be able to press the trunk request button and it pop open. I assume you did this?

The only scenario I've found that allows me to lock any of my keys in the car is by having a second key outside the car and then locking the car, either by keyfob or request button, with the first keyfob inside the car.

Otherwise its foolproof. (my experience anyway)

While the car doors were still locked, I locked the keyfob in the trunk. So, there was no "trunk request button" to press.

I've never been able to lock the keyfob in trunk with the car doors locked before. Now I'm concerned that I can't trust the system!

There's a button on the trunk, under the lip to the right of the license plate...did you try this?

could be a spontaneous glitch! cant believe. i did put my key with other bags and tried to close the trunk many times (by accident of course) and it didn't allowed me to close the lid.

Actually when it happened to the very first time, i thought something wrong with locking mechanism and thought this might be a good time to visit dealer LoL ... my stupid brain took 5 mins to pull out the correct information from manual!

Maybe your battery is low? Have you had the battery low warning on the trip comp?

Was it in the gym bag and maybe wrapped up in something or in a pocket? Maybe the signal was blocked by something in your bag?

Battery was fine.

Yeah, my cell phone was also in my bag. But, it always is.
Sucks.

I just tried this on my car. Regardless if a second keyfob was in my pocket or not, the trunk automagically popped itself open when it sensed another keyfob was inside the trunk. I'm going to suggest your keyfob battery needs replacing.

Interesting. Wouldn't I get a warning on the dash?

most likely... the lining from the bag... along with the cell phone provided enough interference for the car not to pick up the key fob signal... (that is if ur batt is not low)

As rockenz said, there are some dead spots in the trunk where the sensors don't detect the ikey. So be warned! it's not foolproof
