Locked out?!?!?

I'm locked out of my car! The i-key is in my purse on the front passenger seat. It's not supposed to let this happen - it shouldn't have allowed me to lock the doors with the key in it.

There have been a few occasions in the past where it prevented me from locking the keys in the car. I don't know why suddenly today it decided to lock me out. Has this happened to anyone else?? I'm so annoyed right now.

Was your ignition set to ~On~ If so, then I believe it will lock you out. Theres three settings I believe. Off, Assc, On.

The only way i see it happening (never tried, just a theory) is if u stop the car, open your door, lock it while it's open and then close it.

This may be what happened... often the door will swung back shut on me after I open it. That's so stupid though; the anti-lockout mechanism should still work regardless.

I've locked my key in the trunk twice now.
Shouldn't happen, but it does.

I thought so too, but I tried on both doors and it won't work.

Makes sense that it wouldnt open if you think about it. If you were in your car with your key fob and the doors locked. The "bad guy" tries to open your door, you wouldnt want him to be able to push the button and come on in.

And I'm not even blond! (Although based on the number of times I've locked myself out of the car and the house, you might think I was...) I thought with my altima I'd never have this problem again!

FYI, I got the car brand new in April 07 and it now has about 61K miles on it. I know the i-key battery isn't dead. Hopefully this isn't something that starts happening as the car gets older...

Happened to me, as well. I put my bag into trunk, forgetting car key is in there and closed the lid. Turns out that the key ended up underneath my laptop facing the bottom of the trunk, which effectively shielded the iKey from communicating with the car. Kind of makes sense, to me. I'd suspect other things could interfere with the iKey, in very close proximity, maybe even cellphones?

I posted this in another trunk thread.

Well the manual says the trunk will open IF all the doors are locked. I just tried locking my ikey in the trunk and if the doors were unlocked i could close the trunk no prob. If I had the ikey in the trunk and tried to lock the door, it would beep and unlock the doors. BUT if the doors were already locked, it let me close the trunk with no alert or opening of either doors or trunk. SO, guess I wont lock them in the trunk.....

but this thread is for keys locked inside the car.
