How to remove exhaust tips for cleaning

Hi there. I have the factory exhaust pipe tips on my 2007 Nissan Altima SL and they are hard to clean on the car. Anyone know how to remove them?

I thought they were welded on, as part of the tailpipe. But when I looked in the shop manual, (after I read YoungJeezy's post) they are shown as a "muffler tips", with a separate item number. I guess if "pull" doesn't work, then you try "pull harder"?

yes they come off via pulling. I don't have any first hand experience with this, but I remember reading a thread awhile back about a member who lost one of the tips because they simply fell off. This is when everyone discovered that they are in fact not welded on and are more of a clip on application. pos move by nissan if u ask me, but hey just another reason to go aftermarket

Yeah, finally got a replacement. They are just held on by friction. the Pull and Pull Harder method is what i would try.

theyre probably pinched onto the pipe. grab some pliers and loosen its grip if it wont just slip off.

it's pretty tight. I cleaned off the pipe, greased it up, used a piece of wood and a rubber mallet to pop the tip back on.

i've tried the "Push it in" method. Your best method is rubber mallet and a piece of wood that fistaround the inner collar of the tip. A few wacks of the mallet drives the dman thing on, just make sure the tip is correct in orientation to the otherone.

OK, I would say try pushing it. If that don't work, get a hammer. Increase size of hammer as needed.
