Help! '09 Altima wont recognize FOB key!

Hey guys. I'm a LONG time reader and a first poster here. I have a problem I was hoping someone could shed some light on.

This morning I took my car into the dealer to get an oil change. I parked it in the service bay and got out to sign all the paper work etc. Buddy went to the car to get the milage and just like that, the car wouldn't recognize my FOB key. Both the remote battery and the car battery are fine. This has never happened to me before. The remote will still unlock/lock/pop trunk no problem. When you sit in the car and depress the brake and push start, nothing happens. That being said, if you don't depress the brake and push start nothing happens either. Put the key into the slot and you guessed it, nothing!

I left the car at the dealer but they still "have no clue what's wrong" with my car. Can anyone shed some light on past problems and solutions? I've search the past posts so forgive me if this is a repeated topic.

Cheers from Canada.

First I've heard about such problem. But warranty will cover it so let dealership worry about it.

At least it was already at the dealership when this happened.

Got a call from the dealer. Turns out the steering wheel lock mechanism broke and somehow this contributes to the starting of the car.

That has got to be a 1 in a billion chance of that happening right in the dealers' service bay. Service guy said it's so rare their mechanics have only seen in one other time on the Altima?!

Thanks for the input.

mine does something like that sometimes... but the buttons on the fob don't work either. i have to get in wit the valet key, un hook the battery to shut the alarm off, then hook it up again & it works fine... strange thing is that it does it with all 4 keys...
and so far, nobody knows what the hell causes it...
