Help. Altima won't move or rev in drive.

I am really needing some help on this one. I have an 07 Altima 2.5S. 121000 miles. Yesterday I took it out to get some pizza and noticed that when I came to a complete stop at a redlight it shuddered slightly. This happened twice and that was the end of it. This morning on my way to work it did it again, 2 times. When I went to leave work the car shuddered badly under light acceleration. I made it about .75 miles from work not moving more that about 30 mph when I lost all acceleration. I pulled off to the side of the road and shut the car off. When I started it back up the engine ran perfectly and I had acceleration. I put it in drive and the car goes nowhere and I lose all control of the gas pedal again. The car won't rev or move. I tested manual mode on the shifter and reverse. Nothing. In addition, there is no sound or movement from the car when putting it in any gear. It's like the shifter is moving but the transmission never actually does anything. The car will roll when you move out of park but stops when you put it back in so the shifter is working. I have searched and found one other person with an issue like this and it was suggested that the battery or alt was the issue. I took my battery to be tested after I got the car towed home and it tested fine. Any suggestions? Sorry to be so long winded. Thanks in advance.

Your answer is in your question. It is clear your transmission is blown. All the signs and symptoms are there.

Not many people buy extended warranty for over 120k miles, you are out of luck here, on 08 altima they extended the warranty till either 8year/120k or 10year/120k for the cvt, but i guess he has to get a new/used or rebuild? is it possible for cvt?

Good luck

You cannot get an extended warranty to cover an existing issues. He has 121K so he is SOL. 1000 miles over. I have an 09 with a CVT and the owners manual states 10/100 on the trans.

Also if you have electrical power and can start the car why bother with the battery or alternator.

Thanks for the replies. I had Nissan look at it today and it is indeed the transmission. They quoted me $3410 out the door. I found a good used transmission with 24k on it and it has a longer warranty than the new one from nissan so the whole deal will cost me around $2200. I should have my car back this week. I also contacted Nissan America to see if they could help at all since I have read multiple posts where people say that they have helped. I'll post back if they actually decide to cover/discount labor. I understand that they are under no obligation to, but if they help it would be awesome.

P.S. I tested the battery because it was free and only took about 30 minutes out of my day. I have had batteries before that test good and would start a car with no problem, but then caused strange electrical issues so I figured it was worth checking.

I only purchased the used transmission seperately. The dealer is still doing the install and providing fluid. The breakdown follows.

New CVT $2142.86 (+ 9.25% tax)
Used CVT $1192.50 (includes 9.25% tax, $25 delivery, & $75 core)
Fluid $160
Labor $720

The new CVT comes with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. The used CVT came with a 12 month unlimited mile warranty and includes a labor payout as well.

Its really not that bad, even comparing to conventional tranny.

Now you need to keep your car for 200K +
