Question Which Octane fuel are you using on your 2012 3.5 V6

I'm very new to this since I've only owned a '98 Honda Civic Hatch in my life and now I own a brand new 2012 Nissan Altima V6 3.5 SR.

I've read the owner's manual about what fuel to put on my car but I don't believe that 87 octane it suppose to be for a 3.5 V6. I've read somewhere that somebody had said that 87 octane is for the 2.5S not the 3.5 V6.

So am I right that the 2012 3.5 V6 suppose to use 93 octane???

90% of vehicles are designed with 87 octane in mind. Exotic sports cars, supercharger and turbo charged vehicles require high octane fuel. 87-89 octane is fine. Anything else is overkill. Your owners manual should specify the 3.5 or the 2.5.

I double checked and the manual doesn't say which engine.

Well since its a new vehicle and that the owners manual that came with the car then trust what it says. Its not a turbo. Its not a supercharged vehicle and its not an exotic sports car. So 87 octane will suffice.

2007-09, the V6 required 91 octane or higher. The manual used to specify the octane for each engine type.

2010+, the V6 was tuned to run 87 octane. The manual no longer specifies engine type since both engines use the same fuel octane. Does the inside of the fuel door still say "for maximum performance, use 91 octane" for the 2010+ models?

Google octane for a lot of information. There is no benefit to using high octane in an engine designed for low octane. I also have a 2012 V6 and originally misread the manual and used high octane for about 3,000 miles. Then I switched to low octane and have not noticed any significant difference in gas mileage or engine performance at normal street speeds.

I just went outside and looked to see and there was nothing stating that or any info about what gas to use.

I have a '09 SE V6 and I switched to Chevron regular 87 octane after finding out that my local BP station's "premium" gas is a rip off:

I'm getting about 400 miles per tank and I haven't noticed any difference in performance.

I got a new '12 v6 just like you. I am putting in 87, the manual clearly says 87 right on the last page. Also the fuel tank door usually tells you to use premium when the car requires it. This one does not. Plus I have read online in many places that the '10+ v6 altimas now run on 87.
