CVT Manual Mode Not Working!

Hi guys,

2007 Altima 3.5 SE CVT 98K

Today my manual mode on my car stopped working, I tried searching around and I failed to find anything about this happening so I wanted to turn to you. Once I start the car the car will go into manual mode for about 10 seconds and after that it will automatically the computer will switch it to D.

I found one thread and the guy said that it was a bad battery, Well I went out today and picked up a brand new optima battery and it did not solve the problem.

I wanted to know if anyone else here had a problem with manual mode to stop working and ALSO my car is still under warranty for the CVT. I have 98K on the clock and I remember the CVT has a warranty till 120K i wanted to know if would be covered?

Also if its not. Has anyone here have it to fail to stop working on them? If so what do I have to order to replace it? A new Shift cable? A sensor? I found nothing on this so Im going into the dark on this one and wanted to know if anyone can shed some light on this

thanks!

that almost sounds what happened to mine only switching to either manual or automatic, it wouldn't display what gear it was and I'd also get the random lag/surge. I had my cvt replaced at around 46k. There was no out of pocket expenses. The replacement took a few days and in the meantime, they give you a free rental.

It's weird that the nissan dealer doesn't repair the cvt. They said they can't really repair it because it's a sealed system, so they just replace the whole thing!

And yes you're covered up to 120k miles

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully more people will chime in. It sucks more to hear that you have a 3.5 as they are reportedly less prone to issues.

I'd take it into the dealer and have them look at it

Guys -

Im calling the dealer tomorrow and seeing whats up. I have the 3.5 and I have always heard that they are less prone to issues. Im a little worried since I put the VIAS Delete plates on and the intake and I hope that doesnt void my warranty!

Like I said it just doesnt go into manual mode. It goes into D just fine and every other gear but manual is the issue. It goes in right after I start it up then bam back into drive.

I am covered up to 120K and hopefully it will work out.

But gameguru, they completely replaced the whole tranny, Everything? I hope I get that lucky I would love a new CVT

Im taking it to the dealer whenever I can this week and see them to check it out. Im asking them for a legit answer and not some BS answer on what went wrong and this way I can replace it myself. I hope its a sensor or just a cable I have to fix but I hope I can get a new CVT out of this

But anyone here who had this problem please chime in! It would make things so much easier and save me alot of time!

Thanks!

Had the issue once. It was the cvt connector on top of the transmission. It was not seated properly. Unscrewed it and screwed it back on and it was fixed. This was after several days of trouble shooting and messing with everything else. Sigh.
Could have sworn I posted about it too.
Mine is a 3.5 as well

as far as I know, the dealer replaced everything so it's running smoothly. Was planning on doing the cvt flush around 60k miles, but now only have to worry about it after 58k miles!!

What did the dealership say when you brought it in? Did you get a new CVT?

I have a appointment on saturday morning them, right when then open at 8am since this is my daily driver for work. I havent looked at the connector yet. I want to see if they will replace the tranny for free first.

I will let you know how it goes.
