I covered the entire undercarriage of my 2012, took that stupid nissan fur shit out of the wheel wells and sprayed that was well with rubberized undercoating. Mainly because I am very confident of the garbage metal used by Nissan. I did notice that Nissan sprayed 2 little patches in the foot wells with their own undercoating......I guess this was their fix for cheap steel

Just curious, why did you buy 2 Nissan vehicles if you knew they used cheap steel. Personally, I would avoid them like the plague.
Rust proofing a 6 year old car doesn't make sense. It will just seal in any rust that has already started. Especially in enclosed places like doors and rockers.

yeah, seal it in and prevent it from spreading/expanding. anyway, they're only coating the underside of the car.
looking back, i probably shouldn't have gone for it, but it's too late to change now anyway.
I am rethinking it now that it is attached to a CVT. Should have went G37.
you bought a Nissan just because of the VQ? it's a good engine, but hardly good enough to justify buying a car for. in fact, it's pretty dated now and good bit behind it's competition.

I really like the motor.....You are right..I should have gotten a Camry....I am old enough
I have never heard of a major rust problem with Nissans. Toyota on the other hand is prone to rust, so much so they have bought back trucks and replaced frames, etc. Our Altima is a 2008 with 90,000k on it and I see no signs of rust, even when I have paint chips, or under the car. My 2002 Sentra has 151,000 on it and is the same way.
Unless someone did something to your vehicle, I don't think rust should be a major concern.

Those two areas sprayed may not be to 'fix' a problem area, rubberized undercoat is also used to reduce road noise, heat, etc.

It's funny that they just sprayed the areas that were rusting.....and not the whole pan. Those little areas are not going to do much for noise.
Every car manufacturer does that, not just Nissan. We have just about every Japanese brand in our family and each one has black patches sprayed underneath. Makes no sense why they didn't just coat the whole bottom. You always bitch about Nissan and the CVT yet you own two of them. You must be pretty naive to buy two new ones based on the VQ alone and/or you just like to complain about everything.
OP, I wouldn't sweat it. The 3rd gens had issues because of the design of the floor board (hollow). The 4th gen is on an entirely new frame/design and I haven't seen any prior floor board issues pop up. I personally got my undercarriage coated when I bought it new and after 4 Chicago winters it still looks good. The key is to wash it regularly.

Not really. The only place it really lacks is fuel economy (and NVH on the 3.7 when it's wound up). The VQ family is still pretty competitive in terms of hp compared to the competition considering it hasn't been updated to DI like a lot of competitors.
I figured. A normal consumer usually tries something different when they're unhappy with a product. I could see your new Altima being a mistake because you loved your 3rd gen. But then you go buy the worlds ugliest minivan with what's essentially the same power train you bitch about every day.
