Parking brake not engaging

the parking brake in my 07 altima doesn't seem to be engaging. the light will come on, but the car will continue to roll even on a slight slope.

does anyone know how the parking brake works on the 07 altima? does it engage the rear disc brakes or is there a separate braking system somewhere?

If they retained the 3rd gen rear brake disc type, and I think they did, the e-brake engages a drum-style brake that acts on the inside portion of the rear disc.

In any case after 130,000+ miles on mine they still grab just fine on the OE e-brake pads. I would guess the cable needs adjusting...I think that can be done up on the handle end of it...Correct me if I am wrong by all means.

Edit: if you look at the spring in the pic between the pads there is also a sprocket like wheel that can be turned to adjust. The rear discs have holes in them (covered by rubber plugs) so you can turn the rotor (wheel off) to line it up to be able to adjust. I am not sure though where it is recommended the adjustment be made (at the handle end or the rotor end).

Sent possibly from the shitter on my HTC EVO, bizneeaatch...

can someone confirm rizaman's post? i just want to be sure that the parking brake system is separate from the disc brakes.

in any case, this is pretty weird. parking brakes aren't supposed to wear out on a car with 70,000 kms.

Found these as well for reference...I know it's a 3rd gen, but just in case it'll help.

Closer shot:

Rear rotor with hole and plug:

Good luck bro...I agree, after 70,000 clicks they should not wear out.

4th gen has the same set up. Just tighten the cable.

i took it to the dealer and it turned out that i wasn't doing it properly. i've never used the pedal ebrake before and was only pressing it lightly it until the brake light came on.

i feel like a fool, lol. thanks for the responses though... should be helpful for future reference.
