new to the forum. have a question. i have a 2011 altima coupe 3.5 with about 20k on it. i have taken it to the dealer 3 times for the same code, P0101. the dealer keeps putting on new maf and supposedly reprogrammed the computer. the code is back again. no real issue with it running other than getting tired of looking at the check engine light. anyone else run in to this? thanks.
Thanks for the quick reply. i would hope they are doing the necessary checks, but i am losing my patience with them. the cel usually comes on mostly when going uphill under some throttle, say like an on-ramp to a highway. the last time the tech was able to get it to happen, then a code for the intake air temp sensor came on. the intake air temp sensor is part of the maf, and again they replaced the maf, for the 3rd time. the light is on again for P0101. i'll have to push them for better diagnostics.

Is your car stock?
You might have a lemon. After a RESONABLE amount of tries (usually 3) and the problem still persists... you have a lemon.

It is more likely that the technician never properly diagnosed the vehicle in the first place, so I highly doubt this car is a "lemon." Also, a lemon means a vehicle that continues to have a defect that substantially impairs its use, value, or safety. His problem doesn't fall into any of those categories at the moment.

I have a similar issue
2011 altima 3.5 sedan
two weeks before thanksgiving, start car, drive about 5 miles, service engine soon light
1) take to dealer the friday before thanksgiving, I have slightly over 30000 miles, so they are doing the 30000 mile oil change/checkup and checking out engine light.
They tell me that code P0101, MAF appears to be working ok. They think dirt got past the air filter and since I am there for 30000 miles checkup they put new air filter, clean maf and reset light
following monday, car warming up in driveway, light comes on again
2) take to dealer the day after thanksgiving
They change the MAF, you should be all set
Following monday, car warming up in driveway, light comes on for third time
3) take to dealer the following Friday
Software needed to be updates (assume this is some upgrade of firmware on computer ECM)
Car runs fine for rest of December and part of january
January 17th, car warming up in driveway, light comes on fourth time
4) Bring to dealer on Jan 28th.
MAF appears to be working ok, we think dirt must have gotten on it, cleaned and reset light, if it happens again we will need to keep car for awhile.
January 31st, driving home from work, light comes on again.
Not sure what is wrong but I suspect its definately not MAF.
Interesting. You'll have to keep me informed on what they do for you. i still have to make an appt, not sure if i will do it locally or go to another dealer.
Dropped it off this morning, they called back just now.
I knew they would have problems because when they turn off the light it takes a few days (or weeks) to come back on. They said since they couldn't determine the problem that they called some nissan Technical support thing ( I forget what he called it). The guy there said they have been seeing issues with this with an intermitent service engine light like this being caused by one of the wiring harnesses. They said the dealer should order and replace this harness.
I am not exactly which harness it is, the service rep said its big (I assume it must go to the MAF among other sensors). He said the warehouse in New York doesn't have it and california has two. So I am going to pick up the car tonight and he is hoping that he gets the harness from california which will take a week to week and half to get.
