Altima Hybrid: Navigation Hack, DVD Hack, Ipod Controls and Bose Conversion

A lot of this information is covered throughout the site, but much of it was posted in late 2007/2008, is scattered throughout various threads and is not specific (or does not include at all) the Hybrid.

While this post is primarily for myself, I also thought it would be a good idea to start a new 2009 thread with updated information all in one place for new users (like myself).

I have a 2007 Altima Hybrid with factory nav/bose/etc. After more than a year of this insufferable navi, I am debating between sucking up the loss and replacing it with a better unit, or putting some money into upgrading the existing setup. After reading through the forums, I have the following questions:

1) Is there a converter box/alternate hack to GTCompScientist's that (while brilliant and the only true hack I've managed to find) cannot be left on all the time and can cause the navi to lose its location?

2) Is there a working converter box or hack to allow the Navi to play DVDs (through a separate DVD player, installed through the AUX port) yet?

3) Is there a working IPod controller that allows playlist and folder navigation (preferably through the steering wheel controls) yet?

4) Is there a working converter that allows an aftermarket navigation to control the bose system yet?

If any of the answers to #1-3 are no and 4 is yes, I'd probably go aftermarket. If #4 is no and 1-3 are yes, I'll stay with the factory and perform the mods. If there are multiple nos, I guess I'm SOL

Thanks for the help everyone!

1) No

2) No

3) No

4) I dunno if this is exactly what youre talking about, but there is an adapter to allow an aftermarket head unit to be controlled with the steering wheel controls, but from what ive heard, its not the best thing because sometimes the buttons dont register with the aftermarket system and such.

you can use aftermarket navigation with the bose amp but you will most likely need to purchase a converter. which one depends on which head unit you buy.

Yeah I figured I'd need a converter, and then I saw a thread here that said no converters were available for aftermarket Navis, which got me concerned...

EDIT: Just found it. all my questions should be answered by this. and i thought gt comp scientists were a company...haha my bad. thats why i found nothing on my google

yeah... I guess you found it... from what I remember, it was a hardware hack... putting a switch on the VSS wire to the nav unit, to make it think the car wasn't moving...
