HOW TO - paint tails 08 A/C - GTR Style

This is a how to on how to paint your tail lights into the GTR Overlay with the Turn Signal Cutouts. THIS IS A VERY TIMELY PROCESS AND TAKES ALOT OF PATIENCE!!!!!!!

The good part about doing it this way is that it is not perminant.....all you need in nail polish remover and a rag to clean it off.

The paint can be bought at any hobby store/ online .....pactra racing finish black....tamiya color clear coat for plastics

You will need to pop off your tails first.

1. Take off black clips by popping off the top with a screwdriver.

2. Pull back carpeting in trunk

3. Take off bolts with a wrench/socket. "make sure to put your hand under where the screw can fall bc i lost one when putting it back on, its in my bumper somewhere now lol"

4. Pop off tail light/and all the light components.

Cutouts.

Materials you will need.
1. Tracing paper
2. Laminating paper. "i used a sheet of laminating CLEAR paper that only sticks on one side"
3. Masking Tape
4. Compass "drawing one you use to make circles in math class"
5. Either happy face circles/any sticker circles bought at CVS for .99 you choose how big you want them

1. To start the cutouts you will need to trace the reverse lights/brakelights. "DONT FORGET to label which is the top of the light and which is the bottom they are not perfect circles for the reverse....thats only the brake lights"

2. After you trace the drawing onto the laminating paper and cut them out which you need to take your time bc they are circles....

Painting.

1. Firstly clean off the tails with soap and warm water.

2. DRY off tails make sure theres no DUST or it will stay there permanently.

3. Put on all the stickers/laminating circles

4. You need to place the "happy face" stickers where you turns will be. I taped mine off to make the two even and straight.

5. Tape off the parts not being painted with masking tape

6. Start first coat of black. Spray the can NONSTOP in lines across making sure to coat evenly BUT ONLY put a little IF YOU SPRAY TO MUCH IT WILL DRIP :squirrel:

7. WAIT 20 MIN

8. Do this as many times as you want 20 MIN INBETWEEN COATS "the first time i did this i did 3 coats black 2 coats clear........i reccomend 5 black and 2 clear for darker or you can do my before and after shots, where i did the first set than did 2 blk and 2 clear on the entire light .

9. Wait 2 hours for the entire light to dry

10. Plug everything back into the lights AND CHECK THAT THEY ARE WORKING BEFORE BOLTING THEM BACK IN.

11. ENJOY YOUR AMAZING JOB WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINISHED PRODUCT

NIGHT IT WAS DONE

NEXT DAY

TO COMPARE THE BEFORE AND AFTER FOR....

3 BLACK 2 CLEAR

AND 3 BLACK TWO CLEAR + 2 BLACK 2 CLEAR ALL OVER

The dots look really nice but I think it would be nicer if they stood out a little more. The contrast between the tinted and untinted is so low that you can barely see the dots unless the lights are off. Good job though, looks sleep and looks like it took a lot of time and effort.

yea it did and if i did it over i would def do it the way i did the first time where the dots, brake and reverse had nothing, but i would of made it darker overall. The thing was i thought it was dark enough at first but it wasnt up to my standards so i just did it over the entire housing bc its so hard to get those stickers where they previously were. I didnt want to risk screwing it up

I agree that the contrast of the turn signals aren't accentuated enough, maybe if that part was a little darker ^ ^

so have you gotten any trouble for you red license plate LED's?

Yea i wanted to im thinking of taking the time out to get a bottle of the nail polish remover, a q tip and alot of time to remove the paint where the dots are. Lol this will take forever if and when i do it.

And no ive never had problems with it ive gotten pulled over 4 times with this car buit only twice i had those in and they never said anything. The last time kinda scared me lol the cop was so pissed at me lol.....street racing..but i was going 60 in a 55 and the other car went left i went right and the c op followed me. It started out at the light where i took off hard n load lol and then chirped in second n then saw the cop hidden......but no tickets yet so knock on wood
