My '09 coupe rattles like mad at highway speeds. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't pinpoint the problem. It seems as if the sound is coming from the windshield on the passenger side but they said they checked all the seals and other things and couldn't find any problems

I too seem to have some of the previously mentioned issues on my brand ne w '09 coupe.

1. there is a rattle that comes and goes that TO ME sounds like it's coming from the passenger side dash area up near the windshield. I'd say more often than not it is quiet so it's not a big deal. Sounds like rubbing of plastic so maybe it'll break itself in so-to-speak.

2. My girlfriend has an Altima sedan and definitely has an issue with the airbag light. I didn't think I had it but she was riding in my car this past weekend and the light came on. She only weighs about 105 lbs but it's unacceptable for the airbag to turn off. I noticed when the light came on she had one leg resting on the other and it did turn off again some time later and she was sitting with both feet on the floor mat. Maybe that's what caused it, either way, that's F-ing ridiculous.

3. I had a horribly annoying noise coming from the passenger door area. I thought it was the passenger seat shaking when I went over bumps. It was really pissing me off. I finally figured out it was simply the seat belt hitting the pillar when I went over bumps and whatnot. I just slightly moved the passenger seat forward and it let the seat belt hang normally which stopped the noise.

Hi:
I've got the same problem with the seat belt banging on the post. I just buckle it in there's nothing else you can do.

OK I think I've tracked down all the noises on my '09 Coupe:

1. The cowl vibrates/rattles at highway speeds on windy days. The noise comes from the passenger side, where the windshield and hood meet.

2. There's creaking in the moonroof. I think there's some friction with the glass and the parts around it.

3. When the moonroof shade is drawn, the shade will rattle on less-than-smooth roads. The rattle is just above the sunglasses compartment.

4. The passenger seat belt buckle hits the pillar. You can buckle the belt or move the upper seat in front of or behind the pillar (which puts more of a gap between the buckle and pillar).

5. Does anybody else sometimes hear soft buzzing/vibrations coming from the gauges and air conditioning/radio area? I notice these most often under 35 mph. Can't figure out what it is yet.

I'm dropping my car off at the dealership in two days...

actually for the seat belt knocking in the pillar i did something that worked pretty well.
since the interior of my coupe is black i bought a black weather strip at the home depot and cut about an inch of the WS and glued it to the pillar exactly where the belt was knocking....

i also put some more WS in the dash where it meets with the door.
and that solved my problem with the door panels vibration noises.

If you go on NTB09-018 - Nissanhelp.com and click on the latest TSB I am wondering if this "2 stage" clip could be one of the sources of rattling? I took off my A-pillar and compared to the top and bottom clips, the center clip seems very loose and is metal on metal contact. Let me know what you think. I found it funny that a TSB is on there on how to replace this clip if there is nothing wrong with it or no reason to take off the A-Pillars.

I thought one of my noises was coming from the cowl on the passenger side. After doing tests and driving it 60 miles, my dealership claims it's the passenger mirror. They say the rattles were within the mirror, with the parts that connect to the door. I just got my car back last night; time will tell.

Also I mentioned rattling in the moonroof area. They hid some foam blocks up in there, between the headliner and glass.

I'll report back...

Rattle Box

My 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5s is a week old with 150 miles on it. I have the convenience with convenience plus packaging. So far, I am so disappointed because the cabin just seems to be a total rattle box whenever I go over bumps in the road. Most of the noise is coming from the back. I have read all the posts on this thread and see that many others share rattling issues. Has anyone found a remedy for quieting the rattling from the back? I have reseated the spare tire but it hasn't helped. (It was off-centered and not in tightly though.)

Sorry, posted in the wrong forum, but any feedback is appreciated.

If the noise is coming from the Rear Deck, the rattle seems to be caused by the (4) plastic covers (that cover the seat release and metal anchors). There is a piece of felt glued underneath the cover, however, that does not seem to work. I bought a sheet of thin black foam, at a craft store. Cut the foam to fit under each cover and that seems to have cured the deck rattle.

I just drove 400 miles on a road trip...and that buzzing remains from the cowl area - it's not the mirror on the passenger door as the dealership believed. I wish they had believed me when I said it was the cowl. The corner buzzes at highway speeds + wind.

Does anyone else have a noisy moonroof?

I believe I discovered the same thing before I read your post, but I am so happy that you replied! I don't think it's those covers for me as much as it is the entire rear deck. It seems very cheap and flimsy and when I tap on it anywhere (especially near the brake light), I can hear the residual of a rattle after tapping it. In most cars, this deck is really solid. I don't understand why they went so cheap for this part, especially since it encases the rear speakers.

I have had my 08 Altima for a little less than 1/2 year now and I occasionally hear rattling somewhere near the driver's side view mirror which is very annoying considering I bought the car brand new: and I also hear sounds when I make turns when the car's just starting to warm up. Nissan seriously needs to consider some Noise Dampening alternatives- I have 4 other cars and none of them have ever experienced internal noise problems until after the car gets aged into the 100,000's. : /

So I started a post about a month ago about rattles/squeaks. UPDATE from DEALER. Nissan is crazy and there dealer is to. I have a high rattle coming from the right front passenger dash/windshield area. You know what the mechanic tells me when I'm on the test drive with him??? "Well we hear this rattle all the time on Altimas and its normally the "bad" glove box they put on the Altimas" he said. He said to push in the glove box when I'm driving to make the rattle go away. ARE you kidding me NISSAN?? I didn't buy a 22+ thousand dollar car to have to hold the glovebox while im driving to stop your car from rattling! And the rattle isn't even coming from the glovebox but from the passenger side dash/windsheild. He told me there was nothing they could do this is how the car is made. My car is rattling BAD. Not just a tiny sound but when you go over any types of bumps small or large your hear that bad rattle. So now im stuck paying on a car that rattles. Can you imagine whats gonna happen AT 20,000 miles if its doing this at 650 miles?? I am also starting to notice a rattle coming from the rear back right A-Pillar. I'm gonna pay this car off in a year so I can trade it in for a REAL car.

I've driven about 750 miles since my last post on this forum and guess what... Now I'm hearing this constant light annoying rattle in the windshield like you & rattles when I go over bumps!!!! This is some , I’m gonna take it to my dealer- Trophy Nissan in TX, and I will make sure they fix this... I'll post an update on how this goes later. But from what your experiencing w/ the glove box is B.S., I would force them to replace it until the sound goes away seriously don’t let the dealer punk you like that make them fix that problem until your satisfied, go have a little chit-chat w/ the manager.
