If the maxima is suppose to be such an sports car, why isn't the car offered in an 6 speed transmission? I mean I know the new CVT is suppose to be nice, but by not offering an 6 speed doesn't that defeat the purpose of an "sports car."
Also, has anyone test drove the new maxima, and seen the rpm limit. It's lower then the 3.5 altima at 6,000 rpm, why is that?

I have read about this, nissan says that they did not sell enough manual transmissions in the maxima so it wasn't worth it to make them. I still think it's a pretty sporty car.

I did test drive one a couple months ago. It was the premium model and not the sport. Apparently you can't get all the options in one car like you can in the Altima. You have to choose between sportiness or options. It drove pretty nice, but I didn't think it was worth 10k more than the top end Altima. I think I was looking at 39k for a top end premium Maxima...it still used the same plastics and didn't feel like much of an upgrade. For that much money I'd definitely be looking elsewhere for a car in that price range. There's a lot better stuff out there, especially if you take into account even slightly used cars.

Hayyyyy, I started a thread like this a while ago, it was about how Nissan calls the Max a 4Door Sports Car. And me and alot of other car mags think that title should be handed over to the 3.5L 6mt Alti. When the 6speed died in the Max in 06 the whole 4door sports car thing kind of died with it. So I agree with ya.

beleive it or not this may not look like it but the last gen that was sporty was 6thgen years only up to 2006, Esp years 04-06 it came with a good 6 speed which was real sporty and smooth

I so agree with you on that. The Altima should have goten the 4Door Sports Car(4DSC)
Better yet they could have at least left a way for the tuners to convert this to a FR car...then you would have your self one hell of an car!!Then again it might still be pos.
And +2 for me to.

IMO nissan just started to die off after 03 that max was the last really good one, i mean they make a few nice looking cars but theres no middle ground as far as performance cars for the them, i'm not a fan of the new Sentra/SE-R it just looks like a sqashed up 3rd gen altima and the only real car for performace is the Z which is out of alot of peoples price range, not to mention some people still need a back seat, it sucks that they don't offer something like the 240 anymore somewhere in between the sentra and the Z cuz that 2 door altima def doesn't cut it thats just my $0.02 tho...
why would the altima be a 4 door sports car when the new max is already running in the 13's? do we have any altima's running in the 13's stock? that would be a little rediculous to label the slower car of the two a 4 door sports car wouldn't it?
in the end 6speed ftw
and maxima used to be a 4dsc but it just slowly faded off to more a mature touring sedan
things change in life it always don't mean its for the best or the worse, Personaly where the maxima is right now is fine and good
you want cheap affordable small sedan with some looks go for a Sentra
you want a mid size, sporty, and looks go for a altima
you want a mid size but more of a premium executive type with sportyness and luxury appeals go for a maxima
you want s true sports car go for a 370z
all i gotta say is test drive one the cvt isnt as bad as people make it seem me personally I would have loved a 6sp manual but im not trippen thats what i have my mustang for but a lot of you knock the 09 max but it isnt that bad it pulls pertty hard after like 30 mph this thing comes alive.......
