Yeah, I knew if I ran the car hard I was to do more frequent changes. I plan not to tow anything or drive it off road. But the manuals still lacks (if you go through all their suggested mileage schedules) when to replace it. I guess I will have it tested, but I thought at 100k or 120k it would of suggested a change.
I do know the newer transmissions in Toyota are sealed and require no fluid changes. it is the life of the transmission.

Nowadays the term "overdrive" is vague and it doesn't really apply to a cvt that has no gears anyway. I think they continue to use it because many people know to turn "overdrive off" when descending steep grades.
I just learned something. I never knew to use the button for downhill driving. I just enjoy the glide down at a higher rate of speed. This explains why the cops hang out at the bottom of the hill.
Thats exactly why I slightly let my foot off of the gas when going over hills... when I'm speeding of course. Lol. By the time I reach the peak of the hill the car has slowed to about the speed limit, no cop on the other side I just let it gather the speed back on the way down. Lol.
But I really hate that they do that, sit behind hills. Even if someone is not speeding they could get a ticket while coming down a hill if they're not paying attention.

My work is blocking these images, so I will have to check this evening when I get home. But, yesterday I was taking a look around the engine bay and found that there was lots of extra insulation around the pump area.

That PS pump is one noisy little bugger when you get the hood up and turn the wheel.. BUT, this isn't exactly the noise I am hearing internally.

theinternot, was the dealer able to fix the noise problem?
And do you hear it when the radio is on normal vol?
I am wondering what to look for when i test drive mine from the factory in a month
I do not hear the noise when going over 20 MPH, just like theinternot mentioned at the start of this thread, even with the radio and AC/fan off, but can't tell if it stops or the road and normal engine sound muffles it out at higher speeds.
With the radio at normal volume or the AC on (both do not need to be on) usually does cover the whining/whistling sound.
As far as what to look for I would say it either sounds like someone who is trying to whistle for the first time as they gently push air through their lips or a window is slightly cracked open and the wind is blowing by which changes in pitch. The length of the sound could be a few seconds long it has more of a morse code change in pitches. Lateley the noise does stop when the brakes are fully depressed and the car is stopped but sometimes it still does.
I went to my Nissan dealer today about the noise and they told me it is the electric power steering, others I was told have also commented about it in their cars. This information was relayed to me since I didn't speak with the mechanic. Not sure if the electric steering components are on the passengers side since that is where the whining is coming from.
uniquetoday, did the dealer attempt to do anything to reduce the noise?

Ok thanks. If it's only below 20 mph i can live with it if mine does it. And i always have the radio on normal or above normal lol I should be fine
does the noise suddenly stop right at 20 or gradually goes away?
Sorry, for the delay in updating. Haven't had a moment until now.
Nissan corporate is sending out a mechanic to look at the car on Aug. 23.
To answer a question I saw earlier in the thread... No, the dealership was not able to reduce the noise.
Today, I experienced another weird anomaly... I was driving at about 45mph on a totally flat hill road, AC on full, when out of nowhere it feels like the car misfires, lugged for a split second, and then went back to normal.
On a second trip in the afternoon on the same stretch of road (soccer tournament going back and forth) it did it twice.
I have just notified the person at corporate about this and to include it in the report. I have also started a lemon law claim with the BBB. It's funny, they kept telling me they (rep at corporate) would call me back, but when they did they first thing they referenced was the BBB claim. At this point I feel the car is defective (more specifically, the electronics) and don't feel this vehicle is ready for prime time.
That's the news till noon.
P.S. I am so tuned into this noise I can hear up to 45mph, now. It is slowly driving me insane.
P.P.S. I will try to upload a video of the noise. I just want to make sure that the compression doesn't make the noise inaudible... if so, then I will post a link to a video to download.
UPDATE: While watching the video of the noise on the phone it's crystal clear.. played it on computer and it is very hard to make out. I think uploading it will be futile.

Thanks for the reply, I'm sorry that your car issues seem to be getting worse.
Do you think that the transmission problem you experienced is the same one that is described in this thread?
