Two Intermittent problems (REMOTE START, DOOR CHIME)....related???

*1. I have noticed from day one upon taking ownership of this vehicle that sometimes when exiting the car after turning off the ignition and opening the driver side door that the door chime may or may not sound with a beep, beep, beep. When working normally? it beeps continuously until the driver gets out and closes the door. Opening the door again will result in the beeping again...when working properly in my opinion. The dash display ALWAYS shows "Door Open" with or without the door chime beeping.
Lights on or off is not the issue as this is a daytime or nighttime problem.

*2. Second intermittent problem is the REMOTE START. Pressing the door lock, the horn beeps once, then within 2 seconds pressing the "start" button may or may not start the car. This morning tried three times and it worked...taking it to the dealer anyway...

On a weekend trip, after having a stop for fast food, tried the remote start....NO GO. Sometimes I will try the remote start with the car in the garage in the morning and I can hear the horn beep and then press the "start" button...it may work one time, and another time it won't on different days.

The remote start is a 50/50 so far and both problems are not in line with Nissan's quality control of their electronics in their new '13 Altimas or any car for that matter.

Any others experiencing remote start or door chime probems and did the dealer fix the problem(s)?

Another one of my issues

I am definitely having the remote start problem, and now that you mention the door chime... I may have that too. I will have to pay closer attention. That's a sound I normally block out pretty successfully.

On mine, when I cut the car off it doesn't chime unless I open the door BEFORE I cut the car off.
If I open the door, cut the car off (it starts chiming at this point), close the door, and re-open the door, it won't chime after the re-opening.

My also chimes when the car is in accessory mode and only driver's door is open.

Mine has always displayed "Door Open" when a door is opened regardless if the car is running or not.

I've seen others complain about the car chiming or not chiming when they think it should or shouldn't it on here, but IMO it works fine. I believe Nissan used the same or similar programming logic for the keyed and keyless ignition vehicles, which may or may not provide ideal results.

However big_J, I would take the car back to dealership and confirm that everything is working correctly.

What is the purpose of the door chime? I too get it at random times when shutting off the car. Can't be the lights since they're auto. If it's just to let the user know that the door is open, then I can definitely say it is not working properly. The only thing my salesman showed me is that the car beeps when you leave the key fob in the car and close the door.

As for remote start, I had a problem but different from yours that I documented in another thread. Mine stopped working completely until I went into the steering wheel menu and reset it. The

In reference to the REMOTE START problem, you said that you "went into the menu and reset it." Was it "ON" and you reset it to "OFF" and then back to "ON" and that fixed the problem?? Thanks for you help.

It was set to on but stopped working completely. I set it to off then back on, and it has worked fine. Again, for me it wasn't a matter of remote start working intermittently, but stopping altogether. Regardless, I hope your problem gets resolved.

Tradtionally in cars with keyed ignitions, the chime goes off to alert you that the key is still in the ignition or that you have left your lights on.

As for this car, If you leave your lights on (not switched to auto) it will chime as it should in the traditional since, but the lights on chime (continous sound) is different from the door open chime (beeps in rhythmic pattern). As for the door, I think that it should beep if you open the door when it's in accessory mode, since everyone doesn't ride with the radio on.

As for why it chimes when you cut the car off with door open, in a car with a keyed ignition, the key would be still in the ignition when you turn off the car, and therefore you would get a chime to alert you of this. I think the same logic is programmed in the Altima, and that's why it chimes when you cut the car off with the door open, but it doesn't do it when you cut the car off with the door closed and then open the door.

Just got back from dealer and .........

**REMOTE START**
Dealer said that a service bulletin, not in owner's manual, states that only two remote starts per key fob are allowed. Owner must start car on third attempt by pressing start button with foot on the brake. THIS RESETS THE SYSTEM.
Also, if spouse has key fob, an additional two times may be used to remote start before the reset sequence as mentioned previously is performed (press start, foot on brake).
Note: The owner's manual only talks about two attempts to EXTEND a running vehicle having using remote start and nothing about limiting the remote start (engine off, engine on) function. I see a similarity here don't you?
Anyway, guys and gals, try that out next time or keep this in mind when you use remote start to start your vehicle the next time.

**Door Chimes**
Dealer said that when the driver side door is opened, door chime should chime with engine still running according to their service manual. NOT TRUE... (at least for my vehicle). While still at the dealer's location, with engine running, I opened the door....no chimes!! (Tried this in park, in drive).

Got home and shut off engine, opened door.....no chimes!! (Working properly in my opinion.) "Door Open" on dash on but that is all.

While sitting in the car I decided to check navigation system out and reset something and pressed START button once for the ACCESSORY MODE, opened the door and....three chimes, pause, three chimes, pause, etc.
The above makes sense...chimes should come on when in the ACCESSORY MODE to let you know you have something on when you open the door. Shouldn't chime when engine is shut down and driver door opens. Right?

BUT..... mine has been chiming with the above sequence intermittently with the engine shut down completely and the driver opening the door.
So, I'll be taking it back to the dealer next month when I get my oil changed and they'll have to come up with another answer or fix (replace a relay, module or something) until this door chime is working as it should.

By then also, I'll know if the remote start "mystery" has been solved.

What do you all think?..........

I noticed this problem as well and as you stated intermittent. It happened to me the other day. My remote starter has been ok, but I noticed that if the car has been remote started and I go in and out of the car(as I opening doors to put stuff in), the car always beeps 3 times. Very annoying.

Is there a way to increase the remote start time? I think it's set to 10 mins, and then the car shuts off. I'd like to increase it to 15-20 mins.

They won't let you. I think it's an inhouse leagal issue. If you were to accidentally remote start your car in an attached garage 10 (or 20) minutes won't cause harm whereas 20 (or 40) minutes make lawyers sweat liability bullets.

Mine doesn't chime when a door is opened while the car is in ON mode (Start two times WITHOUT foot on brake), but it always display Door Open. However it does chime internally and externally if a key isn't when all doors are closed while the car is in ACC or ON modes.

Door Chime problem solved? I HOPE SO!! Read on......

I took the car to the dealer and with the intermittent door chime three on, pause, three on, etc., when opening the door on the driver's side after shutting off the engine...I was told that a service bulletin regarding the PARK position was used to fix the problem.

Apparently, even though the "P" is showing, the park switch or other contacts on the shift lever wern't making correctly. With the engine off, but in between N and P, the car will chime. Try it and you will duplicate the problem. With an adjustment from the technician to my shift lever, the problem disappeared.

Check with your dealer about getting this service bulletin applied to your car to fix the problem.
