As I was driving home from work last night, all of the lights and gauges in my center console just went off and won't work at all.....has anyone experienced this yet?
The car is at the dealership for a few days now, they told me they have had a few cases of bad instrument panels. I am waiting on the part to be delivered
This has happened to me 2-3 times over the last month, when starting up the car in the morning. Any fixes for this issue or did they just replace the entire cluster?
Hi. Sorry for reopening a long dead thread, but as this did not have any answers I thought I would add one from my experience this week.
2003 Altima 2.5 5spd. Cleaned throttle body the way I have on dozens of vehicles prior... spray gently and wipe off gunk. WELL, I go take it for a victory lap when and notice the cluster (gauges and lights) are all dead. With headlights on or off. Also I can't rev past 2k rpm or konks out like it's going to stall. All signs and forum posts point to "you screwed your TB dude." I couldn't believe it... How could something SO SIMPLE like spraying TB cleaner screw up the whole thing? Sensitive sensors and all, this couldn't be what it was for me. After all, I didn't soak it or anything, just sprayed a few quick puffs on the gunk and wiped it down. Yes, I did manually open the plate to get inside and sprayed a few puffs in there for good measure... but still that shouldn't have messed it up THAT much.
Well after a couple hours messing around with fuses and after-market head unit wiring, I decide to give it the ole "disconnect battery" punishment. I go to unhook the neg battery cable and notice that while the nut is really tight, the connector does seem to be loose. I can wiggle it with my hand. So I loosen the nut, take it off and bend the connector in an oblong shape to make sure I get good contact with the post. Tighten it back up securely and it goes back to it's round shape. NO wiggle room. Nice and tight.
Start up the car....(drumroll please...) I have dash lights and gauges work fine. Idle is at 750ish, no hesitation or konking out at 2k rpms. Everything is fine.
Moral of this story: Sometimes it really IS the easy fix.
Hay new guy here. I had this problem with the dead center console too.
Here's the easy fix.
1. Set the clock on the radio to the right time including AM / PM.
2. Turn the engine off and then back on.
Viola.
i believe there is a tsb to replace the gauge clusters for this problem, obviously the car will have to stay at the dealer when waiting for the new cluster to come in as it has to comply with federal regulation to prevent odometer rollback laws. car cant acquire more miles before the new cluster installed.
edit: i'll check assist tmr. i know there is a tsb for the pathfinders to replace the cluster for erratic distance to empty calculations
