Rear window making a rubbing sound when lowering and raising.

I got tint about two weeks ago and I haven’t lowed my rear windows till the other day can the tints be the cause of the noise?

Also can the dealer blame the noise on the tint?

Yes the tint can cause the issue and it it wasn't from the factory then unfortunately the dealer can also blame it on the tint.

See how it is over the next few days while opening and closing it.

If it still is giving you a noise then I would bring it back to the place you got the tints done from.

I was hoping the noise was cause by them not lubricating the windows prior to delivery. The front two window are fine but I been lower and raising them almost every day. BTW it’s both rear windows.

Can I cause damage by lowering the windows with the rubbing?

I was thinking of buying silicon spray but not sure even how to use or even if it would help or should I just take it to the dealer?

Mine make the same noise and are tinted. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or if it's because the rear windows are hardly used? Do yours tend to go up really slow too like the motor is struggling? That's how mine are.

I would think it’s because the rear window are rarely used because I have the exact same tints on my front windows and they work just fine.

As far as the motor struggling, in mines I can see the window struggling the first ¼ on the way down then it speeds up a bit and the rubbing noise goes away. Also vice versa on raising the window, the very last ¼ of the window before it goes all the way up it will slow down and the rubbing noise comes back.

Def sounds like the window is getting hung up slightly because of the tint.

I would bring it back to the place who did the tint job and see what they can do for you.

The only downside to not fixing it is if the window is struggling on a 1/4 of the window it may cause the motor to go faster because of the struggling.

Please keep us posted though as I was going to get my windows tinted in March.

Yeah I don't know but maybe the rear windows move slower for child/dog safety. Granted mine are tinted and I have in channel vent visors which stop the window about 1/2" short of the top now - that's either a weak ass motor in those back doors or maybe it's just the way they are for some whatever reason. funny the front windows like rattle and vibrate like hell too and are way too loose lol wtf

I called the shop where I did the tint since I didn’t have time to go in person and he said just to bring the car over the weekend so he can stretched the weather stripping so it doesn’t hug the window so tight. He also said if it doesn’t work he will take apart the door and lubricate the motor.

Am not sure if I should let this guy mess with the car? I don’t want him to make it worse and then have the dealer tell me that someone tampered with the door and they can’t fix it under warranty.

He also said that the tint were not the problem that he has done many car and none of them have an issue that it must be either the weather stripping or the motor itself but he is willing to help me out to fix the problem.

I highly doubt that tint would cause a window to drag. The channel/track might be pinched slightly somewhere, I would check that first. You can do that without taking the door apart, just lower the window all the way then check the track with your finger - widen out any tight spots. If nothing obvious then I would say back to dealer before you have this guy start pulling door panels and lubricating motors...

When I got my 2.5 SV in November, for the first few weeks my back windows would make a rubbing noise. It did worry me a little, but I just thought because it's a new car, so it's adjusting everything and that'l take some time. After a while, and to my relief, the noise went away automatically. Oh, and my windows aren't tinted.

I want to thank everyone for the replies.

I made the appointment for Saturday so let’s see what the dealer tells me.
I have another question and don’t want to open up a new trend as my entire trend so far has been just negative things about the car.

I went to the dealer about two weeks ago because my hood has a slight shake whenever the car is in drive or reverse at a full stop. The dealer told me that it’s normal as they made hood thin for weight purposes. I been ignoring it but plan on bring it up again this Saturday.

My question is has anyone else notice this?
Is it normal??

Had the rear window motor replaced a few months ago, as it had failed and was causing a terrible schreeching sound - have the tech look at it & they should be able to tell right away!
