I will give you my costs for the items from eBay. Shipping cost will vary depending how it is shipped.
HUD Display Unit $37
I picked up two of these puppies and the second one did not include the bevel trim piece. The second one cost me $26.55 and is a spare backup.
The unit sits on the left-hand side of the top dashboard.
Here is the setup running in my car,
I placed a rectangle piece of window tint so it shines back nicely and cuts off "ghosting effects".
HUD Dashboard $49.95
I hadn't noticed that the dash didn't come with the passenger side air bag which is very important to me. However, it is perfect in every other aspect. So it will eventually go back on the auction block. I did take advantage of the piece to make a template cutout but need to take measurement points before posting it.
HUD Instrument Cluster $40.00
This is the priced jewel and most critical component. This is a hot sell item on eBay so your chances of picking one up cheaply is very rare. Don't even think of buying a new one. The used ones are highly priced as well. I've tried unsuccessfully to pick one up but lucked out on this one because of timing, the "Buy it Now" option, and the seller didn't recognized it was a HUD cluster. How do you know you have the right one? On the lower right-hand corner of the fuel gauge is the MPH-Km/h selector knob and on the lower left-hand corner of the temperature gauge is the HUD ON/OFF - Dim knob. Good luck with your search.
HUD Wiring Harness $200.00
What??!!! $200.00 USD. Well actually I found a source which was gutting a 93 GLE and he said I will give you everything in the interior cabin that the harness connects to for that price. Fan blower, Automatic Temperature Control, Fusebox, etc. etc. etc. You name it. Hum?? Is there a ATC system in the horizon? I don't know yet because it is too far out in the future but all the components are sitting around collecting dust in the meantime.

The main piece you will need from the HUD wiring is labeled M45 in the FSM and it is a 20-pin connector. I haven't looked around for a source for just the plug itself but my hunch tells me it is out there somewhere and stealthmode20 probably knows where and how to acquire it. Any information would be helpful if anyone else knows.
So let's see. How much does this all add up to? $353.50 from the US Treasury. Not bad. The only thing is that it doesn't add horsepower to the car. Oh well.
This is not something hard to do. I am sure stealthmode20 and myself will be available to help if any of you need some help. Good luck if you choose this project.
One final comment. The HUD controller in the instrument cluster is known to fail miserably. I have extensive electronic knowledge and could quite possibly fix them. So if you happen to locate one that needs repair I will give it a try but of course I would have to charge for the work. How much? I don't know because it will have to be looked at but I am thinking $50 off the top of my head.
Best wishes.
