Like a lot of Nissans, the clearcoat (which is actually gray) on the front grill began peeling and looked terrible. My peeling was confined to the center portion.

I got brave, and tested a gel-type brushable paint stripper (from home depot, brand is kr3 but it probably doesn't matter) on a tiny section. After a minute, it took off the coat and had no effect on the underlying chrome.

I masked off the affected area and applied a thick coat to the bad areas. After a couple of minutes, most of the coating could be wiped off with a paper towel. I repeated the treatment and then followed up with some fingernail work and windex and paper towels to remove the last tiny bits.

The result is a clean, chrome colored center section (I left the circular Nissan area untouched). Looks a whole lot better!
