1) From what I understand, you don't want to scrub the filter at all. At least not the filter medium itself. You should be fine to clean the filter with the K&N "recharger" kit that you bought. Just make sure you didn't damage the filter medium when you scrubbed it.

Also, make sure you don't over oil the filter. Try to do it like you are painting a car, in light coats one pass at a time. Don't move your hand too slow or you'll over oil and wreck you MAF. Again, trying to think of it as painting a car, and that you don't want any drips. The filter should be just light pink.

2) If you don't want to mess with oiling and cleaning, I believe Apexi makes a very good dry cone filter, but this is only what I've heard around the forums here. I don't know if there are any fitment issues with the Injen piping or if it's all standard or what.

3) Hmm, hydroguard couldn't hurt but I've never had a problem and I rock the CAI year round.
