I went back to stock after trying the Berk, Ebay CAI, and VIAS plate removal, most gained some top end, but I definitely felt my mid-range torque drop significantly. The Berk was surprisingly bad, and I expected it from the VIAS removal. The CAI was the best all around but still worse than stock. I wholeheartly agree with your comment about the tubing being the same on any 3" intake. If I get time at work I am going to model the flow thru the pipe and see what the differences are.

Others have had success with all three of these, so try it for yourself. There have been many discussions about the nissan fly-by-wire throttle setup and the learning curve of the ECU. Every car can respond slightly different. I now rely on dyno numbers and 1/4 times to help weed out the ambiguity of opinions, including my own...

The crunching is definitely not normal - do you have a stainless mesh filter? Might be collapsing under load above 5k rpms.
