The factory BOSE amp is rated at 100w. I think the amp is rated 2 ohm, the speaker size is 8" and its a free air. You'll be hard-pressed to find another free air 8", I've been searching for one for my Altima. Another option would be to find another one at a junkyard. I found one last weekend and transplanted it into my wife's non-BOSE '02 Maxima using a Kenwood headunit. Heading your posts having me worrying that this sub might blow sooner than I was anticipating. 500 bones is a chunk to cough up for a single speaker, BOSE or no BOSE.
It might be possible to upgrade to a single 10" sub, but some cutting will have to be done to both the sheetmetal of the deck and the metal plate that the present sub sits in. I know Kicker used to offer a single sub in a 6x9 configuration, but that's been a few years ago now.
