Assuming there is nothing wrong with the amp, I guess another sub could be used. But if the amp keeps kicking on and off, sounds the problem is not the sub, but the amp. The power and signal run through the foam bundle, although I'm not sure what it is (I'm gessing electronic cross-over of some sort), into the BOSE amp, where it's converted from a stereo signal to a mono signal and into the sub, in that order. I think you'd know if the sub itself was blown, a blown speaker has a unique sound. If you need a walk thru for the BOSE amp wiring, let me know.
