We have just over 20k on our Contis and I can't wait to get rid of them, they are by far the worst tire I have ever had. They are too soft and spongey, no sidewall ridgeness at all, and they are aweful in the snow.
As for the question to what we replaced them with, on other vehicles I have experienced many different brands of tires in different price ranges.
You never mentioned how much you are looking to spend and what your driving charaterists are like. Do you like the soft comfert of the factory tires or would you prefer a more rigid sidewall for better handling and stability?
For inexpensive tires I perfer Kumho tires. If you are looking to spend a little more I tend to lean towards BFGoodrich rubber. Never cared for GoodYear, ones I've always had sucked and they were twice as expensive to replace. They make some decent tires, but you can usually find a tire as good as Goodyear for half the price by companies like Kumho or Toyo, etc.
