245/45/18 with +42mm offset okay?

Blake suggested sticking to 235/45/18 to be safe, but I was trying to get a little better ride out of the car if possible. It's an '05 Altima SL, not lowered (and never will be).

Wheels are 18x8, +42mm offset. 245/45/18 would be much easier to find as well, which is another important factor here. Any input is appreciated.

I've searched a ton here, and since most everyone else has lowered their car it's tough to compare. It sounds more like a width issue than anything else, though.

You'll be fine. Others have done 245/45/18 and were fine, of those who did rub they had less than 40mm offset and lowered.

I have 245/40/18 on 18x8 42mm on a stock suspension with no rub. The ride is great. I think most experience a harsh ride after they get a lowering kit, new struts or stiffer shocks. You won't be getting any of that that so 40's will be nice. Why not stick with 40's?

stick with 245/40s they are ALOT more common than 245/45s and the difference in sidewall is about 1/2" inch. It will not ride a whole lot better with the 45 series as opposed to 40 series. The ride will depend alot on your tires as well.

Interesting. I was trying to go a little larger than stock total diameter (215/60/16) to fill a little more of the wheel well with the stock suspension, so that must have been why I skipped over look for 245/40/18 in the past. At least the local shops seem to have a lot of those in stock as well.

dthump - your car looks real nice man, glad I could see a pic so quick with your suggested tire size

bigirish - love your wheels too. If they came in chrome I'd be all over them I think. Very simple and classy, just what I'm looking for!

If you wanna eliminate a LITTLE of the wheel gap there a few companies that make springs with very minimal drop, nismo comes to mind. The car will still ride good and it will eliminate some of the gap. Just a suggestion....

Cool, good to know Grimm_Reaper! It's like that old book "If you give a mouse a cookie..." It's the same here, once you get wheels you need all this other cool stuff!

Thanks man. You won't need to get the drop kit right away. As you can see it's still a nice fit. I can live with the gap for now. A CAI is likely next for me, squeek squeek!

I tell you what .. My next set of tires are going to be a 255/40/18 .. I was doing some playing around with tire size. And A 255/40/18 is just right it's not as wide as a 245.40.18 and not as much side wall as a 245.45.18 but has a little bit more side wall then a 245.40.18. The 245.40.18 is a little bit more wide then a 255.40.18. I know it's funny.

Go to www.1010tires.com and run the Tire Size tool. You can see what I"m talking about .
