Are my pads glazed?

I have Brembo x-drilled/slotted rotors with OEM pads up front with drums also with OEM shoes in the rear. My brakes have been grinding a bit as I come to a stop. It only does it sporatically and it doesn't sound horrible, just a slight grinding.

I checked my pads and even my shoes, but everything looks like the day I put them in (8 months ago). I'm almost certain it's coming from the front brakes.

Could my pads be getting overheated and/or are glazed?

Should I try Hawk pads?

Also which way are slotted rotors supposed to go? Mine point forwards but I've seen them pointed either way on different cars... does it matter?

not sure about the direction they should be facing, but as far as the grinding noise goes, have you tried spraying out the brake dust? excessive dust will make noise as well as not installing the little shims that go behind the pad. also, are the pads organic or semi-metallic?

hmmmm...interesting...

I'll try to clean some brake dust off tomorrow. A little while ago, the pads were squeaking and I fixed them with some anti-squeak stuff and the noise went away. It came back a couple of weeks later, so I bought shims. Which shims should go on the back of the pads? The little ones that come with the pads (I took those off), or the ones that fit on the entire back of the pad (the ones I bought).

I think the pads are carbon-metallic. $40 pads from pepboyz.

I'm going to try to get some Hawk pads this week.

I fixed the problem.

I removed the shims and cleaned the brakes on all 4 corners. Brakes smoother than a camel's ass.
