Power Steering Fluid: Dexron II Vs Dexron III
Heard some groaning sounds from the front end when turning the steering wheel (during parallel parking only). Located the POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR and saw that the cap was not turned tight. Looking inside, I saw a stubby, broad dip stick to measure a caramel colored fluid.
The Owners Manual identified this fluid as DEXRON II (which is a transmission fluid). DEXRON II is no longer available.
However, I did find PENNZOIL ATF, which says the following on the label:
"provides superior wear protection for all passenger cars and light trucks requiring the use of a Type A or Type A Suffix A, DEXRONŽ, DEXRONŽ-II, DEXRONŽ-IIE, DEXRONŽ-III or MERCONŽ Automatic Transmission Fluid. It is also applicable in certain transmissions found in General Motors, Ford (other than or Type F fluids), Chrysler, American Motors, Nissan, Honda, VW, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Toyota, Fiat, Audi, Alfa Romeo, Renault, Porsche and Mercedes Benz"
I assumed that this is a suitable replacement for DEXRON II.
WHAT DO YOU THINK, ANYONE ????
